My problem with her is she was portrayed to be this wise and awesome commander but instead she was a fricking idiot.

Which I agree with. I just don't understand why you used those particular adjectives.

It was kind of all over the place

I didnt hate it, but also won't see it again anytime soon.

They kind of just made up new rules for this one to fix problems in the others. There was too much force ghost stuff, and the physics of the light sabers confuses me.

its in the 6.5 range with me.

looking back, i just think Finn and Kylo were miscast badly. Finn isn't funny or believable. Kylo, despite his parents in the star wars universe both being hot, is so fricking homely. I hate his voice, and the emo/incel attitude.

HATED the mole thing. Good grief.

Her actions verified she was out of her league trying to command anything more than a shite house detail and her absurd appearance only served to highlight that fact.

Yep.

This trilogy had zero world building. Just watching the movies, there is absolutely no explanation for how things got to the point they reached by the start of The Force Awakens. The First Order, an insurgent group within the galaxy, seemed to be more powerful and hi-tech than even the New Republic. And the New Republic, for whatever reason, decided to ignore them as a legitimate threat, thus forcing a group called the Resistance to be created to fight them. What sense does that make? And what exactly were they resisting if the New Republic was the dominant force in the galaxy?

This new Star Wars trilogy was essentially about two paramilitary organizations fighting it out for....what exactly? So confusing.

I think they blew up 5 planets in TFA. Those five planets were the entire New Republic? The Republic in the PT was thousands of star systems it just really makes no sense and they’ve made no effort to explain it. The First Order are the rebels to the New Republic but somehow there’s a resistance against the rebellion. They just wanted a plucky group of rebels because that’s a “better story” but they had no way to get there quickly and coherently enough.

what i love is that the movie is out and only 8 pages in the review/spoiler thread.

Means that people like me who swore not to watch another one after TLJ are keeping their word... so far.

Will probably break down and watch it, but not in theaters. #notmystarwars

The Hosnian System was not the entire New Republic, but was it's capital and seat of its senate.

The first order is a successor to an imperial remnant that retreated into the unknown regions after Jakku. It operated beyond the outer rim which is outside the republic. The outter rim was mostly ruled by hutts and other crime syndicates.

The new republic did not see it as a threat. Leia did, but she was discredited when it became public that she was the daughter of Darth Vader. A few of her loyalists like Ackbar helped her start the resistance to protect the republic from the first order.

It really could have been handled with the opening crawl since only a small percentage of people venture into the Expanded Universe.

Its always nice when people who aren't going to watch the movie come into the review threads to let us know they aren't going to watch it.

The novels in the Aftermath Series, marvel comics, and other media projects. To get summaries type in something like resistance in wookiepedia. The articles footnote to the source.

That is an issue with the new series.

You should not have to rely on outside sources, like books and video games, to fully understand a story.

Probably the most disappointing character in cinematic history given his potential.

Utterly wasted.
