Thing is, TFA will run longer than any movie this year. It will still be in $1 theaters after its out on Blu-ray more than likely. I'm talking 9 months. It will probably be in theaters with 16 houses or more till around April, maybe May, before moving to $1 theaters. I need to look at the release schedule, but when the blockbusters start rotating through it will finally get pushed out.

Just hinting at 3 Billion would not surprise me one bit. But just over 2 Billion is more likely.

I think it may do better in China than expectations. They love action movies, and if you take away the star wars aspect of it. This stands on its own as a pure action flick.

I saw Jurassic World today - that may have been the biggest nut filled turd I've ever seen. Hopefully Disney changes course, because if Colin Trevorrow is allowed anywhere near episode IX, he may produce something even worse than the prequels.

yeah, but it's part one of a three picture deal that sees a huge increase in pay. The original cast got millions, with Ford getting close to 20M.

But WHY wouldn't it open in China at same time?

China protects their growing film industry by only allowing 34 foreign films in cinemas each year. They also have several months where no foreign films of any kind are allowed to be in theaters which really throws a wrench in their scheduling.

This article goes into some of the issues w/China LINK

Star Wars is expected to cross the $600 million mark within the next 48 hours and be at $700 million or beyond by the end of this coming weekend.

The Force Awakens made $29.3 million yesterday, a mere drop of 6% from Monday. That takes its domestic total to $600.65 million - making it the fastest movie in history to make it to $600 million in the United States.

It is expected to cross the $700 million mark by the end of the weekend. Avatar's domestic record will fall within the next two weeks.

Dec. 27 - With the largest second weekend of all-time, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has now grossed over $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales. Along with five other new wide releases, it also sits atop the second largest weekend of all-time with the top twelve films grossing over $285 million. Daddy's Home defied expectations, cruising to an easy second place finish followed by fellow newcomers including Joy, Concussion and Point Break as well as Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight performing quite well in its limited, 100 theater debut.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens took in a higher than projected $28.1M on Wednesday, down only 4.7% from its Tuesday figure of $29.5M. That brings its domestic total to $629.0 million, Disney reported this morning. The new cume also makes Star Wars Episode VII the highest-grossing film domestically in Disney’s history, surpassing in 13 days the $623.4M gross of Marvel’s The Avengers from 2012.

The Force Awakens will probably cross $700M on Friday or Saturday, leapfrogging Jurassic World and Titanic to become No. 2 among all-time domestic movies. That puts Star Wars within toppling distance of Avatar, currently the No. 1 domestic grosser with $760.5M.

Avatar's domestic record will fall by Thursday (January 7). Book it. It will cross the $800 million mark by the end of next weekend (January 10).

Amazing!

As late as Jan 7th? It will have a huge weekend. We're talking over 100 million, probably somewhere around 125, but maybe as high as 150.

It could be to 800 million by end of Tuesday.

This thing will be at 1 billion before the end of January, fairly easily.

It's a monster, and word of mouth is propelling it even better than Avatar. Advertising was better too. I never went to see Avatar in theaters, the commercials didn't do it for me.

Having the largest fanbase for a franchise in the history of cinema doesn't hurt.

I don't dispute any of this. I did say "by Thursday," which includes a slight slow down in numbers. It could be close to 900 million by January 10...if it stays strong next week.

Star Wars now at $651.9 million in domestic gross. It will pass Jurassic World today as the highest grossing domestic film of 2015. By Sunday it will have passed Titanic as the #2 highest grossing film of all-time and will have reached the $700 million mark.

Yeah, twice for me as well. I'm still debating if I want to watch it one more time.
