They could call it Episode 8.

I would get pretty hyped

I'm tempering my excitement. TLJ's trailers looked so good and the movie sucked. A lot has to be changed or proven to be lies for this to be good.

Star Wars Celebration is This Week. What Are You Hoping To See In The First Trailer?

Honestly, there isn't anything I really want to see in a trailer. I'm just not sure what they could show me that would get me excited. I still enjoy the Star Wars universe and will watch the new Clone Wars season but the new movie just isn't high on my list. i would get excited if Kennedy were fired after Last Jedi instead of doubling down on excuses and defending it.

Solo was a much more solid film than either of the two new trilogy films but it got killed in the box office due to Last Jedi being so bad. Disney has an uphill climb to win fans back and I'm not sure they will do what they need to do it.

On second thought... the trailer just needs to be Luke waking up from a fever dream... scene from Ach-To at the end of TFA... Luke takes the saber, ignites it, looks at Rey, "you have a lot to learn"... or some better dialogue along those lines. Title sequence.

TFA was the last Star Wars movie I paid to see. I still haven't seen Solo, and after TLJ, it simply isn't possible for this to be a good movie.

The only good Star Wars since the OT has been the fan fic and the TV cartoons. I'm confident that Favreau will put out a product I will want to see, and we'll see where the next stupid movies go, but I'm not paying to see any of them until after I've seen another good one.

Been waiting since 1983.

I hate that I can’t see new Star Wars movies in theaters. But that’s the only recourse I have for how bad TLJ was.

I’d have to hear from everyone that Episode IX fixes TLJ and is one of the best movies of all time ever before I would go see it at a theater. I’ll just wait until it comes to Netflix. I hate that it’s come to this. Solo was the first SW movie I didn’t see in the theater. Episode IX will be the second.

Seeing as the metal hand didn't just fall off and hit the rocks, this would make sense. Because why would his metal hand also become part of the force?

Never even thought about that.

It would be very easy to bring Luke back. It was silly to not fix his “death” in the first place after Carrie Fisher died.

They should just screw it all and make it a Spaceballs sequel instead.

Kylo Ren accidentally kills all the characters except for himself when building a lightsaber goes awry.

This happens in the first 30 seconds of the film when all the characters we know the names of are gathered around.

Yoda then force-ghosts in and the remainder of the film is told like the prison scenes of American History X where Yoda (the black prisoner) turns Kylo Ren (Edward Norton's character) back to the light side. Permanently.

A force sensitive young man/woman stumbles across a Dark Holocron buried deep in a cave. Once touched, a voice introduces himself as Darth Plagueis.

Cut to a scene of the young man/woman bowing before Kylo as his new apprentice.....an arrangment that you can sense is temporary.

Set this movie up as an intro into the old republic with Ray having to search for lost knowledge to face this threat.

Kylo has a redemption arc and teams up with Ray.
--------------------------------------------------------------

I kinda feel like its almost unsalvageable at this point. No one really has that much invested in these characters emotionally. The past two films did nothing to earn it. Might as well throw the hard core fans a bone and setup some excitement for future projects.

I think they fail to realize that they pissed of the parents of the children they are expecting to buy this merchandise.

No parent is going to refuse to buy their kid Star Wars toys or take them to the movie because of Johnson. Kids don’t give a shite. Kids loved the prequels too.

If they don't take their kids to see the movie, how are the kids going to grow to love Star Wars and want the toys? I'm not taking them to see this new one.
My kid wanted to see TLJ b/c he knew how much I wanted to see it. If i show zero interest in it, well actually outwardly negative interest in it, that's going to affect how he feels about that franchise as well. Kids have this weird thing where they want to like the things their parents like a lot of the time.

As others have said, the only thing that could get me hyped would be a retcon of TLJ. There is nothing they can do that can fix the damage that film did to my love of the franchise.

I used to be that person who avoided these kinds of threads at all costs out of fear of spoilers. Now I genuinely do not even care. I'll click on spoiler-tagged Star Wars threads here and on reddit just to see how bad it is.

It's not just the movie ticket money that they'll be missing out on now. In the past, I've bought books, video games, Legos, etc. But I haven't spent a dime on Star Wars since TLJ and I don't intend to give them any money until Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson are gone and TLJ is retconned. But that will never happen so oh well. Life goes on.
