i was shocked to see all of the bad reviews from audience peeps(not media).

majority of ratings i seen were between 2-4 out of 10.

Getting ready to see it in next hourish, i'll reserve judgement till then.

Phantom menace was less of a let down and that movie had big expectations

This one had meh expectations and it was a much bigger let down

To be fair we were like what, 8-12 when TPM came out? It took me a while to realize TPM was a piece of shite.

She also said she is done after the next movie. Additionally, Rian Johnson is helming the new trilogy...so as pissed off as everyone is, this movie garnered him 3 more films. I haven’t seen it yet...so far this is all pissing me off. I’m glad I read this before I went to see it. I may have not recovered

I'm honestly not sure yet if this or RotS is worse.... I'm leaning towards this film being better if only for Rey and Kylo Ren.

And Rose was one of the best characters in the movie up until said cartoonish Finn save.

Really? All she did was bitch the whole time how things are unfair. That's absurd.

JJ went down the checklist of his problems with the prequels and avoided all of them, so I think RLM did have some influence on TFA.

That's a fair point. I wasn't a fan of TFA being a more modern reboot of A New Hope, but now that I've seen TLJ, I have a much greater appreciation for TFA.

How is this film taken? Do those that love it, are you just feeling the high of finally seeing the next Star Wars, or was it really that good that you must have a gold-plated Blu Ray for permanent rewatch?

In the long run this movie won’t be looked upon fondly (relative to Star Wars) IMO. It just doesn’t have a good plot foundation and sells out everything SW has built up to at this point.

As an entertaining popcorn flick like Transformers where you turn your brain off, ignore the past, and just enjoy the actions and explosions - it’s pretty good. As a Star Wars continuity movie, well it’s bad.

But it was still 8/10 for me - sue me

Currently, on Rotten Tomatoes, The Last Jedi has a 93 percent rating from critics, which ties it for the highest score in the entire Star Wars franchise. However, the audience score on the site is much lower, coming in at just 64 percent.

The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones scored a 59 percent and 57 percent in their audience scores. Revenge of the Sith, the third and final prequel film, actually received a 65 percent audience approval rating, putting it one percentage point higher than The Last Jedi

How do you think your final feeling of this movie will be, not now, but a year from now?

Probably divisive. The B-Plot stands out like a sore thumb as being just awful all around. And what did they sacrifice this B-Plot for? Kylo Ren's training. Really just sideline Poe, Finn, and don't cast Rose for a movie.

You know what kind of structure this movie should have used? The Half Blood Prince. Not the movie (that was awful) but the book. Just make it a dark movie about parallel trainings between Rey and Kylo. And hell their mutual frustrations with their mentors and training could have made their psychic scenes more powerful as well.

It should have maintained very central focus on those two characters instead of getting sidetracked by drivel. There's a great movie buried in here that could have used another rewrite and tell the executives to go frick themselves when it comes to the use of other characters.

I liked parts of TFA, but found myself spotting flaws right then, in the theater. That was different than my reaction to the prequels. I thought some things were just TOO over the top, and just objected to the final fate of Han. So I didn't leave that theater giddy, right away I had issues with the film.

I was pretty giddy about TFA. I was wanting a soft reboot, and it (as a soft reboot) was delivered almost perfectly. I knew that they largely ripped off ANH, but so long as the sequel was different and wonderful, then I didn't really have a problem with it. TFA biggest goal was to get back the faith of the fans.

Well let's see here:

Luke wasn't Luke, Yoda wasn't Yoda, Rey didn't really land for me and was underused, Finn was fine and could have had a great end to his arc but they bitched out on that, Benicio was cool but that speech tick bugged me, Leia was unconscious the entire movie, Snoke was basically the Emperor but less menacing and more creepy, Laura Dern's character withheld vital information for no good reason, Hux is a moron, Phasma gets punked yet again.

That leaves Kylo, Rose, and Poe. She wasn't my favorite character ever but i liked what the actress did, it landed for me. Driver and Issacs both did a really good job IMO.

Those who fault it- is it disappointed expectations of your heroes, is it gaping flaws in the film process, or is it, for lack of a better term, blaspheming a sacred tale?

My problems with the film

-No Snoke backstory (most highly anticipated part for me)
-Finn/Rose arc was kind of pointless and drawn out from the main plot
-Forced humor that was too over the top
-If Kylo ran from Luke because he was trying to kill him, why did he kill other jedi padawans?

The force ghost thing is such a cop out. I thought it was stupid in ANH when I was younger. If Obi-Wan really gave a shite, he would have been out there fighting with Luke. The force ghost thing serves no purpose to me. Sure they can talk to their student in ways they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to, but how does that actually help? Being there and being with them and training them and fighting with them would have a bigger impact to me. So now Luke dies and gets to talk to Rey whenever he chooses...big whoop

Because seeing Luke try to kill him is what made him fully turn to the dark side.

It didn't live up to the hype and the Rose character (especially during casino planet scenes and her saving Finn) was horrendous. That being said...

Space Leia float WTF?

was the worst moment in the movie.

Yeah it means he's not part of a shite generation that almost destroyed the world economy. But that's another discussion for a different board.

Oh, I understand and agree with you there. I didn't mind the reboot aspects... what jumped out at me with TFA were the moments where the movie didn't take itself seriously, in the moment.

In Star Wars, we have the silly scene where Han chases a bunch of Storm Troopers by himself. That provoked laughs, but in-story, the troopers are startled by a frontal assault inside their base, something that shouldn't be happening, and it's completely understandable for people to run from a "WTF we're under attack" moment.
In TFA, Han casually shoots a stormtrooper during a pitched battle, without ever glancing at him. He just raises his pistol to the side and shoots him, doesn't look, doesn't dodge, just gives us a sight gag. THAT took me out of the moment, as I wanted to be immersed in the danger and excitement.
You can do that if you have Vader-like cognition, but not an average dude like Han.

Well, in this story, had Luke not done that the resistance would be over, anyway

Luke’s real end game in becoming a force ghost is to be able to watch Rey poop
