I have to say I’m really looking forward to the Plinkett Review on this.
RLM is going to absolutely shred this movie. They could have a review longer than the actual movie.

I don't see how he can defend this movie like he did TFA. I didn't like him bashing Rogue One though... That is still my favorite Disney SW movie

Holy sh*t you people are delusional. This movie being bad has ZERO to do with the original trilogy. The Force Awakens basically means jack sh*t now because all of the questions that that movie had people asking were sh*t out like diarrhea . The plot was a convoluted mess, it was just bleh. And I am anything but an Original Trilogy purist. I really liked The Force Awakens and was invested in the questions that it raised. And therein lies the issue. It had a few good moments, sure. But they completely whiffed on this movie, and it has very little to do with why you think people dislike it.

The original did have campy moments but they were not forced. No one talked about “ I got a message for you........about your mom”. Luke taking the lightsaber that was his father’s and looking at it with fond memories to throw it over his shoulder casually for a laugh. Finn whole character I saw campy and there has been no development with him. All the jokes were horrible. What were the small furry creatures that would not let Chewie eat there for? A smaller version of Ewoks with no purpose other than for the women and children in audience go “awwww”? SW can have light hearted and campy moments but not the way TLJ did it for the sake of trying to get the audience to react that way.

It's a lose lose with the millennial generation when it comes to SW. By god their melt is hilarious.

The B plot only existed to show good intentions from the characters and show so character growth from Poe (Finn didn’t change at all - he’s a plot device). That’s it. It’s essentially a coming of age character driven film smuggled into a plot driven film where the director didn’t flesh out the implications of the B plot storyline when tied back to the main story.
To put it simply, if someone makes a fan cut and removes the B plot it will be really REALLY obvious Poe is the villain.

The final 30 minutes of Revenge of the Sith were much better than any 30 minute stretch of this movie.
How could anyone compare it to The Empire Strikes Back? That boggles my mind and I'd distrust any critic who voiced that opinion.

The movie sucked. The good parts can’t overcome the shite.

Prequels are definitely worse lets not go crazy
And i dont mind the diversity stuff, they should have done MORE with those characters really.
Rey is your new hero and she's basically sidelined for the end of the movie so we could see a 65 year old Luke not fight Kylo
You had a chance to give Finn a hero's death that would have been the most memorable thing in a star wars movie since no i'm your father and they punked out at they very last second in a silly and cartoonish way.
And Rose was one of the best characters in the movie up until said cartoonish Finn save.

If you didn't like Rogue One, you are really gonna hate this movie.

Said the same thing almost verbatim on the car ride home from the theater last night.

To be fair to Mike, it was probably one of the highlights of his life. JJ Abrams has certainly seen his reviews (Damon Lindeloff is the guy who originally made him go viral) along with probably Disney itself. JJ went down the checklist of his problems with the prequels and avoided all of them, so I think RLM did have some influence on TFA.
Just look at Mike here the night after watching TFA: LINK

I'll put this out there on this thread, since the movie is not yet widely known, and the stuff at issue is considered spoilers.
How do you think your final feeling of this movie will be, not now, but a year from now?
Why I ask- I am a huge fan of the OT, to the point that I rarely tolerate watching Star Wars (ep 4 a New Hope or whatever) anymore... because I saw it a zillion times on VHS, before they started altering the movie with the Specialized addons.
I like what they had.
When Ep 1 came out, I was absolutely intoxicated with the "it's a NEW Star Wars movie", I was so giddy just about getting a new film, that I would have seen it 10 times in a row if I could have. Gradually, the buzz wore off, and the later it went, the more flaws I found in that film.
I went back into Ep 2 and Ep 3 with that same expectation, just so excited that there was another in the line, and also hoping they could correct whatever flaw the last film had.
I liked parts of TFA, but found myself spotting flaws right then, in the theater. That was different than my reaction to the prequels. I thought some things were just TOO over the top, and just objected to the final fate of Han. So I didn't leave that theater giddy, right away I had issues with the film.
How is this film taken? Do those that love it, are you just feeling the high of finally seeing the next Star Wars, or was it really that good that you must have a gold-plated Blu Ray for permanent rewatch?
Those who fault it- is it disappointed expectations of your heroes, is it gaping flaws in the film process, or is it, for lack of a better term, blaspheming a sacred tale?

Posting my thoughts in blurbs as they come.
I enjoyed it quite a bit. I think it’s a little overhyped IMO. Enjoyed the opening escape and space battle. Wish we had more backstory on Snoke though and how he lured Kylo to the dark side. Though I do understand making Kylo the main bad going forward. I just don’t want to see him be redeemed. Also would have liked to know more about the Knights of Ren. Space Leia float WTF? One thing I absolutely loved was Haldo’s suicide light speed run. It was visually stunning and extremely satisfying. Only thing that would have it more satisfying would have been if it was Leia (since we aren’t going to see any more Carrie Fisher RIP), it would have sent her out as a BAMF. Didn’t need casino stuff with Finn and Rose. Thought they were gonna kill Finn for a good second there. Luke’s stand off with Kylo was interesting but was hoping for a bit more action to match the emotion there. Guess we are going to get the backstory to that gold chain/dice in the Solo movie next year.
As far as rankings R1 still my favorite and I need time to let this settle in and see where if I like it more than TFA.
