Yeah, Ren is such a badass he cant even pull a trigger after knifing daddy up close? Oh but he's totally ready to be a Sith Lord supreme leader. He can't even feel the "presence of his old master".
And this is why I have zero excitement for Episode IX.
Ren got his arse handed to him in TFA. In this film, he still can't even force pull a lightsaber away from Rey. And yet this is the big battle that we've established for the final film. Our primary antagonist hasn't shown any semblance of dominance or authority, and has been routinely bested by the new Disney princess, and yet we're expected to be excited for the final showdown?
Here's how it's going to go: Rey either destroys Kylo, or brings him back. Everyone lives happily ever after. The end.
Zero excitement.

Snoke is immensely more powerful in the force, he can choke from a galaxy away, he can easily toss aside Reys grab of the sabre even tapping her on the head with it "foolish child" while Ren can't even nudge Rey's pull.
And they killed him off in the most laughable way possible with ZERO explanation as to who he is or where he came from. Nothing. We're supposed to just randomly forget about it.
It was fine when the Emperor had no backstory. He was just the msyterious leader of the Empire. We were only 3 films in at that point, and there was no "history" prior to the Empire, so no exposition on Sidious was needed.
But now we're 7 films in. We have this firmly established lore with the Republic, the rise of Sidious, the rise of the Empire, Vader, the rule of the Empire, etc. If you're going to introduce an ancient, immensely powerful Force user at this point, then you need to explain what he was doing during the first 6 films.
The way Snoke was handled was just pathetically lazy.

When you forget about the main character for that long, your movie is too bloated
They should have never had a 10 minute gap without Rey or Kylo for that matter. I bet that a lot of this shite is studio hackery over Johnson. I guarantee they forced him to write a part for an Asian woman. The narrative should have been centrally focused on Rey and Kylo. Can't believe the missed opportunity that was Kylo training in the Dark Side.

I get why people are mad about the force projecting, but I thought it was pretty badass. That was the most jedi thing he could've done.

But the prequels were actually less bloated and less frustrating to watch. And they didn’t ruin anything. The OT is the OT. This ruins the new trilogy. It’s done. I don’t care to see Episode IX
As silly and childish the prequels could be...there was great plot, and a great story being told. Plain and simple. I'm looking back now on the prequels...and like them more now.

The force projecting was one of the better parts of the film. The schlock that was the first couple of hours was the issue.

I didn’t mind it up until he died anyway

Snoke seemed to be on par with Palpatine if not having a greater control of the force. Its all just hard to digest.
And we still don't know a damned thing about Snoke, and won't unless we get some kind of flashback in 2 years when Ep. IV comes out.

The Force projection was great.
The fact that they decided to subsequently kill off Luke in the most unceremonious way possible was downright insulting.

That part bothered me a whole hell of a lot. Why didn’t he just go to the planet in person if he was going to be killed off anyway? They established people in this movie travel crazy distances in short amounts of time.

I never hated the prequels. I see the flaws people point out in them. IMO, they have the best score out of any of these trilogies, but I think it's the choppy storylines and forced humor that will make this current trilogy my least favorite.

The first one is about trade negotiations and the second is where they send a horny 18 year old off with a hot single bachelorette for a week. Lets not get carried away.

Didn't you ever hear the joke?

Old Jedi never die. They just fade away.
TBH, I'm a little shocked that they didn't take that opportunity to kill off Leia when Luke let go and joined the Force.
Agreed with the folks who say that Johnson missed a golden opportunity to show Ren training in the Dark Side arts under Snoke. (Side note - the Supreme Leader Guard armor is bad AF. Nice touch).

I was counting on him using the Force holding all the AT-AT blasts in place and then tossing it back their way. That would have been amazing.

Also, do we ever get an explanation on the dice? It seemed to be an important part of the story but it only shows up in the final scenes.

Kind of glad Snoke is gone, now they can focus on the Rey/Kylo but I mean they gave him zero backstory. That kind of ticked me off.

That would have been amazing, because one of the most impressive things about Ren in TFA to me was the opening scene where he freezes the blaster bolt in place while they interrogate Poe. To have held all of the AT-AT fire in stasis while the smoke cleared would have been EPIC. (Aside: Did anyone else notice the spiked shin guards on the new AT-ATs to prevent tow cable tripping?)

I don’t think Johnson/Disney wanted to have Luke die a “violent” death

Everything you said is on point and only heightens my distaste for this film.
