The cut they released looked “chopped and taped back together with weak scotch tape” (JJ's words).
I think most viewers, even those that really liked it, would agree that the edit was paced poorly to put it lightly. I really would like to see Abrams cut.

Im still just in shock Disney bought Star Wars, green lit a trilogy, and then didn’t even have a story arc for a trilogy laid out before filming the first episode of said trilogy.

Uh, Rise of Skywalker is pretty much the opposite of what you're saying, and the linked stuff says the opposite of what you're saying too.
It basically says Disney neutered JJ, sometimes behind his back, to avoid controversy and make things more vanilla. Then there's the idea Disney might be trying to undercut him to keep him from DC.
But nothing about what you said.

Reads to me like typical oppressed creative vs check signer type disagreement.
Interesting to read Disney didn't want to push the envelope too much. Which, really, is in keeping with their movies lately.
Frozen 2 was about sisterhood. Incredibles 2 for all the gnashing about the focus on the mom, showed the power of family coming together instead working separately. Hell even the Mandalorian showed how "trope based" story telling can still work, because, well, its been around forever because it DOES.
Abrams can diaf. He's now got the blood of two, TWO Star based franchises on his hands.
What some enterprising young studio really needs to do is focus on some of these "no name" comic type characters coming up. Thats where the real creativity is these days.

TFA was also crap, as are the Star Trek movies. What's the excuse for that? He hypnotizes the cattle pretty well, but if you have more than 4 brain cells, it's total crap.

I think that’s likely. Still, Disney’s fears are well placed. JJ is the Geoff Johns of film and we all know what Johns did for DC. Multiple times.

it's going to be a lesson for studios of big projects moving forward, especially with how RJ absolutely fricked over a 3rd movie
