You obviously think you're smarter than everyone else and it's funny because you're not even smart enough to realize you got owned in this thread.

That must be why $139 million is the most a Memorial Day weekend release has ever made. If this movie releases in December, it easily hits those numbers.

No they aren't.
You know that just because you deny something doesn't mean it's not true, right?

This is perfect.

Me: You contradicted yourself
You: No I didn't
Me: Here it is... your quote
You: Yeah, I did, but that doesn't matter because only I understand what I'm saying

quote:

No they don't.
Again, I don't think you get how denials work. Typically, you need to be able to defend your position other than the childish "nuh uh".
quote:

Yeah, no way they'd ever put out two movies a few weeks apart...
4 Weeks, not in the same month and not close enough to impact each other if both are good. People are willing to see good movies back to back from the same studio: GotGv2 and Beauty and Beast were 6 weeks apart. Finding Dory and CA:CW were 5 weeks with Jungle Book just 4 weeks before CA:CW. All 3 summer movies and did over 400 mill and not close enough to impact one another based on target audiences.

Again, saying this would have made 70 mill more in its first weekend simply because it's in December is the dumbest thing you could possibly post.

And one more "datapoint" for your dumbass May vs Dec argument.

December has had only 3 movies go over 100 mill on the opening weekend EVER. The 3 latest SW movies... simply because Star Wars. May has had 15 movies go over 100 mill that first weekend. All of those have come since 2002 with only 2003, 2011 and 2014 missing out. 2007 saw 3 movies break 100 mill in a 4 week period. So miss me with that bullshite that December would have been a better month and that it would have made a 70 mill difference. Dumbass.

ETA: May has more big openings than any other month by far. 15 100+ opening weekends with November being the next closest at 9 which is filled with Harry Potter, Twilight, Hunger Games and the latest Thor. But sure... they really screwed Solo by putting it in May.

not really a surprising result

Yep, I won't even watch the trailer. Change the channel or back button.

Fool me once, fool me twice. They ripped me off so bad with LTJ that I don't even care if it's "not that bad", no thanks.

Ive seen the originals at least 100 times over the years, had the toys, read a few books, played all the video games, subscribe to the MNOs..ever since I can remember I've had some type of star wars entertainment. But now it's just gone somehow....my childhood is gone and I'm not even trying to get my nephews 4 & 6 involved in it. I'm ready to let it all die.

I'm not nearly the fan that you have been but I get where you are coming from. The Star Wars OT occupied a really special place in my childhood and the current Disney Star Wars team intentionally broke it.

One of my good friends in elementary school died of leukemia just before ROTJ was released. He was buried with a Han Solo in one hand and a Luke Skywalker in the other... and I just can't come back to the Disney table when the same studio that despises those characters is still responsible for their presentation.

had a free ticket and saw the film tonight. it's actually not that bad. waaay better than TLJ. it's unfortunate this is the film that has to burn because of rian johnson/kathleen kennedy's sins, but if it leads to changes at the top then so be it.

Also, I already showed you the numbers for May over the last few years. Try to understand those first.

You showed monthly totals. I showed opening weekends. Which one do you think is more relevant to Solo’s opening weekend???

Follow the discussion. May's monthly box office was brought up. That reply was directed to that post.

We aren’t talking about why you brought it up. We are talking about why you are so completely wrong. Quoting individual words is just nonsense. Wtf is wrong with you?

You stated that I posted monthly totals and acted surprised as to why I would do that. You then tried to make a claim that your figures are more relevant. They're not. I'm in the process of explaining that to you.

May's box office hasn't been this low since 1994 when The Flintstones was the #1 movie of the month. Factor in low Memorial Day numbers in recent years, and the writing is on the wall.
So you are saying either Disney didn't know that May was a terrible month for releases, or were too stupid to think the trend would not have an effect on their numbers?

Solo performed lower than I thought it would. What's weird is I saw it opening day and actually really liked it (despite expecting to not like it).

YOU are the one who said Disney’s biggest mistake was not releasing in December.

YOU are the one who said Solo would easily get to 170 mill opening weekend had it opened in that month.

Your single supporting piece of data to make that claim is that May’s monthly totals are trending lower as if people are going to the movies less and less in May without taking into account the individual movies released and why that trend is down.

We are talking opening weekends. And no month has been more successful for opening weekends than May. That includes 100+ opening weekends. 150+ opening weekends. Any stat you look at and no matter how recent the data is, May is king. Hell, the whole reason there’s nothing opening this week is due to the expection that Solo would be huge. That’s why the numbers have moved down. Other studios getting out of the way of Age of Ultron, CA: CW, GotG3...

This whole back and forth started with you saying Disney’s biggest mistake was a May release. That is totally false and laughable.
