Should we be talking about this?

What?

The “trans” that we have today is not anything like what it was back the. You were a “transvestite” or “trans-sexual”…or a “cross dresser.” Everyone understood that this was a person that liked to dress up like the other sex but nobody, including the trans person, believed that they are actually a different gender or sex than how they were born. The whole premise today, which is absurd, didn’t even exist back then.
No, they existed but they were so widely dispersed that they had no way to reach a level of community (outside of large metropolitan areas) where they could express themselves more publicly (and even if they had, no one wanted to hear it because everyone understood it was a mental issue). The coming of the internet allowed enough of them to congregate virtually that they felt more secure in "coming out" which allowed for the larger population to find out more about the psychosis (despite the attempts, even by clinicians during the height of the pro-tranny phase, to frame them as rational).
A lot of the push for looking at it as something other than an emotional/mental disorder came from Dr. John Money and his horrible experiment with David Reimer and his brother. For those unfamiliar, the quick version is that David had a botched circumcision, somehow Money found out and somehow Money convinced the parents of his theory of "gender roles" and because of all of that he could "fix" David by convincing him he was a girl (which included various roleplays between David and his brother with David, of course, being the girl). Years after the experiment ended David blasted it as having destroyed his life (even went on Oprah about it) and then killed himself.
That's the legacy the pro-tranny crowd follows.
The level of absurdity which exists today is the push to accept the insane stance that they were somehow "born in the wrong body".

Correct. He only wanted to be trans…
But he was one fricked up psychotic dude, regardless off gender.

That is what the younger version of me saw his character as back then, just as I would today too. It's just a movie, there's no need to be an apologist for the role.

Oh FFS
ETA: of course, considering how violent trannies are, I guess this sort of well after the fact arse-covering is more about self-preservation than anything

And diminishing their existence by calling them "it" as in "It rubs the lotion on its skin".

Wasn't he loosely based on Ed Gein?

Then what the frick are you apologizing for? Even Hannibal in the movie said he's not transexual in the traditional sense. I guess now if a dude plays an effeminate man he'll apologize to the gay community because..., well, yeah I just gotta apologize to someone

This was actually a point of contention around the movie way back when it was released and was explained then. This is just some suit telling these people to raise the issue again to cause trouble.

An Iowa school district didn't exactly do a bang up job vetting their superintendent recently.
