That national average doesn’t remove the cities 250,000 and up. Is there a similar comparison that does compare cities 250,000 and up to the remaining US population just to see what it was like for people outside of the 56 cities in the US at 250,000 or above in the 70s & 80s (or even outside of specific areas in those cities). Do any account for the advances in emergency medicine and in healthcare in general over the same time frame?

Much much worse thru 1994.

The Curly years

Denardo started in 1995 and was actually a big improvement until he had to replace his coordinators.

Murder isn't the only pathology that followed the same spike.

You even have pathologies like teen pregnancy and abortions track the same spike over the same period of time. Pretty much any pathology other than single motherhood tracks that path. All the bad stuff got really bad from 1975 to 1995 and then fell off the face of the planet. Then it stalled around 2014...had a brief spike in 2020-2021, then declined rapidly starting around 2023 (and has basically continued on that path to historic lows).

Ryan Reynolds, born in October of 1976, has no living memory of the 70's. Vietnam War, Odd/Even gas days, the terror in Munich during the '72 Summer Olympic games, Disco... he doesn't have any idea of how bad things truly were.

And being Canadian, the 444 days of the Iranian Hostage mean nothing to him.

The 1980's were truly morning in America and most of the world.

To be fair, that’s what they are paid to do. That’s all they know. Director tells you to do this, you do it. Someone higher up tells you your marching orders, you do it. These people don’t have real opinions about anything.

.

You could have just said you didn’t know, showed a rate for everywhere else minus the cities with populations of 250,000 or more, brought up how survival rate from murder attempts didn’t increase (I don’t know one way or the other), or maybe that violent crime that put a life in danger also decreased at same levels.

But you go with a graph that starts in 1973 not allowing for a true view of pregnancy rates for women 15 to 19 before 1973 to see if similar spike (also includes teens who would have been legal adults and not all of those adult teen pregnancies would be problems unless you are a leftist feminist). The other 2 lines show an obvious initial affect of Roe which would just be common sense to view Roe as reason, but then stay relatively level for most of the 80s before a much more gradual decline and don’t really show a similar spike like your earlier murder graph. It also doesn’t show a graph of the teen rates in cities with 250,000 or more people which would help to see how wide spread issues were or if isolated to areas in larger cities and not affecting others across the country in the same way.

And really nothing shows:
quote:

All the bad stuff got really bad from 1975 to 1995 and then fell off the face of the planet.
with only your murder rate graphs showing the second part of comment up to 2020’s Summer of Love not necessarily 2021
quote:

Then it stalled around 2014...had a brief spike in 2020-2021
but then back to the graphs not showing the 3rd part of your comment
quote:

then declined rapidly starting around 2023 (and has basically continued on that path to historic lows

If you have crime rate data that correct for Biden’s Autopen changes to reporting and reporting requirements by states and locals that would be great. Some of their reporting left out major cities on top of making comparisons to prior reporting more difficult.

How soon we forget what it’s like to have an absolutely GigaChad patriot who also loved to make people laugh. President Reagan will go down in history as the most upbeat and positive president ever.

Every decade had problems but the 80s were absolutely awesome for most people as long as you weren't a crackhead or aids homo.

The 80 were one of the most optimistic periods in recent American history

I did. He made one good point in saying the early 2000’s was a mix of previous decades while the decades before were there own distinct things. That was basically a throw away though and not the point he was trying to make

Clearly a Canadian point of view. The 80’s were phenomenal. BTW, I bet he enjoyed the 80’s as well. There’s war and strife in every decade somewhere, but I don’t recall Ontario getting ravaged that much.

The 80s have become the new 50s - the decade people love or hate.

Much of the nostalgia for the 80s is just that - nostalgia, a wish to returrn to one's youth.

But I will say one thing: BR was a much safer and nicer place in the 80s - I don't care how many charts Slo posts.
