As an 80s teen I do remember being concerned about the possibility of a nuclear holocaust happening at any time, but I mainly remember playing my Atari, and riding my bike.

There was a little bit of that but the '80s ended that threat through the cunning use of hair metal.

AIDS seemed like a quickly growing plague, and your stance on gay men aside, it was spreading out of the community and had the added stigma of dying with some level of shame attached.
Reynolds isn't wrong. Nostalgia for any decade omits the angst of that era. The 60's and 70's were great for me, but I'm not missing sitting in an un-air-conditioned classroom in September while I wait to eat bland shepherd's pie and boiled spinach for lunch.

Another celebrity trying to act smarter than they are.
I was a kid in the 80s. Mom didn’t work and dad had a blue collar plant job. We had a great life. Fished, hunted, and played games out in the street. Never worried one second about crime.
I don’t think the word ‘Cuba’ ever came up in a conversation. Was more concerned with the Bears and the Super Bowl shuffle.

as a high schooler in the early 80's, Herpes was a big worry.

It was a glorious decade to be between 10 and 20 years old. Absolutely incredible. But it had its troubles. Let's just take mortgage interest rates as an an example. People would riot today Gas lines? And people were cordial while sitting in them. Countless other issues surrounded our parents but they kicked arse and moved on.
