Let the downvotes rain down, but TLJ isn't near as bad as people pretend it is.

Star Wars has a very loyal and knowledgeable fan base, and when i say knowledgeable, i mean about their source content, not in the general sense of being smart.

It's unlike say Marvel where the average movie goer isn't a comic book reader, but instead became enamored in the characters that they somewhat knew about, and the stories that were being told.

But in the same sense, what The Last Jedi basically did to Luke is the same thing if Marvel would have made Captain America run away from the fight with Thanos, instead of standing up to him by himself, or if Hawkeye and Black Widow would have fought to basically make the other person sacrifice themselves, instead of fighting over not letting the other person sacrifice themselves.

You made a character, who already had his huge story arc and came out as one of the most beloved characters in all of cinematic history, do things that were completely out of character for him.
There's a reason when you bring up this movie and Rian Johnson, you get a lot of visceral reactions. People cursing directly at Rian Johnson b/c they have so much passion for their hatred of what that movie did to Luke and to Star Wars.
People may have disliked the prequels, but they didn't receive anywhere near the hatred this movie did.

No ones pretending it's bad. It's bad, and there's many people that hate it. and hate is a strong word to use, but it applies here. It's not often a large group of people hate a movie. You can simply dislike movies, but hating one is rare. Congrats on that Rian Johnson, fricking arse clown.

It's not just a bad Star Wars movie, it is a horrible movie.

It's the worst star wars property of all time and it's not even close. If anyone could be tried for making a bad film it would be Rian Johnson and his interpretation of what a good Star Wars movie is.

Yeah I mean the problem that I have with the ST is all three movies are retreads of better films that came before. At least the prequels felt different than the original trilogy.

I really don't feel like the sequels will have near the cultural impact of neither the prequels nor the originals.

Yeah he subverted my expectation that he was capable of writing and directing a movie that wasn’t a complete piece of shite.

Then they spent 30min to an hour on some random planet not freeing the human slaves but freeing the animals.

That was by far the worst part of TLJ for me. Well that and the asian chick destroying the rebellion's best chance at actually making a dent and ruining what would've been a completely awesome moment had Finn sacrificed himself for the greater good.

Those were far worse for me than Luke growing old and getting tired of the Jedi bullshite.

If you had told me 10-15 years ago that they'd be Star Wars movies in the theatre and I wouldn't bother to go see them, I'd thought you were out of your mind. But ever since the night I went see TLJ, I haven't spent a single penny on Star Wars. I did see the last one about a year later on a friends Disney+, it sucked balls also.. SW is pretty dead in hands of Disney

If it wasn't Star Wars, it would be roasted even worse.

Actually, I believe exactly the opposite..if it wasn't SW, it would be appreciated a lot more than it is. Most people hate it for "ruining" SW and some of the mythology.

Do you think it’s not absolutely blasphemous that Luke almost murdered his nephew?

No, it does not. TLJ is absolute garbage. Shame on Rian J. & Disney for allowing that terrible movie to be made.

Not really. He saw how dark he was, no? (#notracist)

And besides, he technically spent 1.75 movies trying to kill his dad.

Before you blow a fricking gasket, yes I am kidding about the Vader part.

Just thinking about TLJ pisses me off. Half of the people on this Board could’ve come up with a better storyline for the trilogy…and especially his shitty contribution.

More from Empire...

Rian Johnson says he still wants to make his ‘STAR WARS’ trilogy & adds he often talks about the trilogy with Kathleen Kennedy.
