Yeah, it’s funny this thread is one sided. It never goes the other way.

This isn't hard. Ronald D. Moore wasn't trying to check a quota or anything.

He had, at least, a full idea of what the character should be in his reboot. It did not ring false.
Grace Park as Boomer worked pretty well too..

Its crazy to think about how if this movie was coming out in 6 months, many posters here wouldn't even have given Morgan Freeman's Red a chance. Woulda bitched about how it "couldnt possibly be a faithful adaptation" of Red if the actor was black.

It's Morgan Freeman, I don't think a lot of people would've minded. The problem is race and gender swapping for some talentless idiot then having the media and the entertainment industry all pretending that person can act worth a shite

House of the Dragon.

Making House Velaryon black was unnecessary, and, specifically for the story, it made some of the storylines a little too obvious.

But all things considered, the actor they cast for the Sea Snake has done a pretty good job.

The non indian playing an Indian in Short Circuit and Short Circuit 2. He was actually banned from India for playing the role. I thought the guy did a fantastic job and never saw it as an insult to Indians.

Gyllenhal and Ledger in Brokeback Mtn. Was supposed to be a heterosexual love story.

Without Remorse is a terrible example because almost the entire story was changed from the book.

Donner was casting two white actors. The casting director pointed out that race wasn't mentioned in the script,

so it wasn't race swapped

I would say the black velaryons is one of the worst race swap examples in recent years. It’s just so patently ridiculous it completely derails any immersion into that world. Laugh out loud ridiculous

Toussaint is a fine actor but no

The character is white in the book. The actor in the movie is black.

You said “ a good storyline they didn't radically change” - they completely changed the storyline. It’s a completely different movie.

The actress that plays Queen Charlotte in Bridgerton is great.

Al Pacino as Tony Montana.

John Leguizamo as Tybult and Harold Perrineau as Mercutio in Romeo + Juliet. Though not specifically stated as white by Shakespeare in the plays, we just kind of assume these would be white Italians since it is based in Verona Italy

I think it worked and didn't work. On one hand, keeping track of just the Targaryens was going to be a tall task for people that didn't read the book. Then, you throw in an important house that looks exactly the same. So, having them be black helps with that. On the other hand, obviously, it makes the whole Strong boys storyline very difficult to suspend disbelief.

“very difficult”? How about impossible? Yet we are supposed to believe that this was some big mystery in the realm? And that there is some genetic possibility that an entire family is black as coal but has yellow/blonde hair color?

Yes it’s a show about dragons, point made. But there are also humans in the story that don’t make any logical sense in any way. Just make them black LOL

and the yellow valeryon hair isn’t even the stupidest hair related plot item…it’s that the whole reason the kids’ parentage is in question is that they have dark hair. Not white skin…dark hair

Nobody in the show says “wait a minute now, her husband is black, those kids are white. What are we arguing about?”

Not the same, but the switch from XXL to snack-size Reacher in the movies worked, at least for me.

I can see it. Rickman is just so damn intimidating in size; I just don't see anyone messing with him as people do in the stories. But I guess a neighbor recently messed with him in real life, so maybe people are dumber than I thought.
