That wasn't a swap really. He was based off an established character in the marvel ultimate universe that was actually based on him. The fact they got him to play a character that they created to look like him was just cool all around

and 90% of the people who saw that movie, over decades of showings, had no idea it was based on a king book/story to begin with, and even if they did they hadn’t read it

Beverly Hills Cop was originally written as a grizzled white veteran detective with less humor. It was being developed with Sylvester Stallone as the lead. Then Eddie Murphy blew up and they switched gears.
