Nitpicking then saying Val Kilmer is dead

You know I'm right about the quotable lines.

Him talking that way was not an act.
It was actually. In reality, he can't talk at all. AI was used to re-create his voice in that scene.

Nitpicking
Yeah, okay.
I don't follow actors long past their career (though I am glad Val is still with us). But damn, the movie should get the most basic military details right.

Saw it in Dolby Digital tonight. Awesome. Better than the original by far.
Loved how they kept teasing a death, starting when Mav was getting strapped in for the final mission, and when you thought this was it someone dies, everything changed and they kept going. They did that like 3 or 4 times

Was getting ready for the theater to turn dusty if that happened.

I normally never like sequels for anything but this one delivered.

Went and watched it last night. I loved it. It was a fun movie and I would see it again.

A couple of people I thought would make return appearances that weren’t in it were Viper and Meg Ryan.
I know Tom Skerritt is up there in age. How is he doing health-wise? Thought Mav may go see him if he needed advice, a confidence boost, etc. I guess Iceman filled that roll but would’ve been cool to see Viper.
The other one being Meg Ryan. Not only is she not in it but she’s dead. Does Tom not get along with Meg or something? I know by saying she’s dead it gave the storyline of her telling Mav to not let her son in the Navy, but that wouldn’t have been a big deal to not have that storyline. Instead of Rooster being mad at Mav for delaying his enlistment, they could’ve just had Rooster hold Mav responsible for his Dads death, not wanting to be around Mav because it makes him sad about his dad, etc.
Thoughts?

Just saw it. Was a good but not great movie. Very formulaic. The ending was very predictable (with hangman coming to the rescue at the last moment) and disappointingly is almost into deux ex machina territory. Not as good as the first one, but better than I expected.

She needed to be dead for this storyline. Rooster is the new Maverick. Maverick has no family. Maverick was not the “Best” pilot on paper. Yet, just like Maverick, Rooster delivered when no one else would have.
If rooster’s mom were alive, it would have killed that dynamic of Maverick becoming Rooster’s ‘protector’.
Plus, Meg Ryan has not aged well.

Unknown, but since they used old footage in the flashbacks (and her image in photos), I am sure she got paid something.

By the same token, I actually felt bad for Anthony Edwards, whose Goose was basically a main character in this movie, and yet the poor guy had no present day screen time because he was killed in the first movie! I'd like to think they at least invited him to the premiere or something.

THAT was a proper sequel!!!
Hit on all the sentimental parts, right to the story, no goofy surprises for the sake of surpise...
Was there a dash of cheese tossed in? Possibly. But damn, all around a solid flick.
Well done!

Although the premise behind it wasn’t technically incorrect as any honor guard can give funeral honors, but at least one is supposed to be from the parent service. So there should’ve been at least one Navy honor guardsman.
I also thought it was weird that they both had Purple Hearts.

Honestly, it’s still very fresh to me so I need a few days to fully digest but it may be the best movie I’ve ever seen. Definitely the best I’m the last 10-15 years.

My friends, that’s didn’t go see the movie, laughed at me when I said it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. It really is that good. I’m not sure any sequel can do it better. It was like being in one of those fighter jets from start to finish and there was no boring part of the movie to drag this down yet it also had heart and a good story. Perfect movie, really.
