Personally, I like them all. Good old school slasher type horror movies.

Part two is better than one. I didn't finish watching three. I might try to watch it tonight.

Not really IMO.

It depends on if you like super gory movies where the people on it make the dumbest decisions ever (even moreso than typical horror characters).

The first one at least feels low budget and looks the part. The second one is so overly and ridiculously campy and gory that it makes it hard to take it seriously as a horror movie.

I haven’t seen the third one because the first two were so underwhelming and the second was so ridiculous. I think they’re just not for me. Art the Clown is a decent villain though I guess.

The Legend of Hell House(1973)
was pretty damned frightening(scarier than Hill House), and sexy Pamela Franklin is “violated” by an evil spirit in her own bed. It’s a pretty dark movie, but it’s good for a scare if you’re looking for that.

Tonight was a night for low budget horror. The films on the docket:

Morbid - 2022 - a group of hotties play a game that kills them. Actually pretty decent with some twists and the acting was actually pretty good. Fun movie.

Spookt - 2023 - YouTuber skeptic heads to small town Greenville, Pennsylvania to debunk a ghostly presence in an old abandoned house, but gets more than she bargained far as she teams up with local believer. Very cool film, good story, good acting, some weirdness. Good haunted house flick.

What Happens Next Will Scare You - 2022 - YouTube channel content creators scour the net finding videos to add clicks to their channel, when they stumble upon an ancient ritual, the team unleash something they can’t explain. Another really neat flick that is a really fun watch. Cool monsters, cool back story, a bit wonky but a good time.

My favorite horror film to this day, the underrated 80s gem Spellbinder. Features some gratuitous Kelly Preston nudity which makes it even better.

Just watched Hallow Road starring Matthew Rhys and Rosamund Pike. Pretty cool movie about a couple of parents dealing with a terrifying phone call from their child. The film is a bit like Pontypool where all the action is auditory, but a pretty cool film. Not really scary, but well acted.

Just watched Amp House Massacre. A group of influencers buy a house and proceed to get sliced and diced. It's not that bad.

Watched V/H/S Horror on Shudder. The "Fun Size" segment was easily the best. Not really scary, just lots of fun with a unique premise. "Coochie Coochie Coo" was the scariest segment and was really good overall. Two other segments were pretty good, and there were two that were either boring or just bad.

I caught a little over half of VHS: Halloween last night. The first segment (Coochie Coochie Coo) was decently scary and pretty good. The second one (Ut Supra Sic Infra) was just okay. Fun Size was awful though, IMO. Like lauhgably bad, and not in a "so bad it's good" kinda way. I'm not sure what you liked about that one. I got about 1/3 through Kidprint before I was falling asleep and had to cut it off.

I also thought the anchor segments (Diet Phantasma) are all pretty stupid so far as well. It's crazy to me that something so seemingly easy is constantly fricked up by the creators. Most of the segments in the VHS series are just plain bad.

I plan on finishing it up tonight.

Finally watched Red Rooms last night after seeing so much hype about it for over a year now.

While it's a very well-made movie with a great score, I was a bit let down as it's very much a psychological thriller, rather than straight horror. Also, it's very much a slow burn and (IMO) doesn't have a very satisfying conclusion.

I almost started a thread on this movie but has anyone seen The Medium (2021). It is on Shudder. It is a Thai horror film so it has subtitles but it is disturbing. There are some parts that are tough to watch. Well made movie that I enjoyed but I don't think I can watch it again.

Good synopsis. I think the fact The Wailing having a little humor in it makes it the more re-watchable of the two. You said the same guy wrote both movies? Curious if there are anything else out there he has done.

IMDB shows a short in 2023 and that's all since the Medium.

Chaser is a good movie though. Same director, too. They also did the Yellow Sea but I'm ignorant to that one.

Also since then, I discovered the name for the type of movie I'm referencing in the Medium review.

Folk horror. Asian movies are INCREDIBLE at folk horror b/c of their history and, more importantly, cultural history. The same as why the UK is the epicenter and why it doesn't work as well here.

Just watched MadS, and while technically impressive (one-shot movies are always interesting), I just didn't think the movie itself was all that great.

I'm in a rut recently of finding highly-praised horror films to be rather mediocre. Hoping The Medium and/or The Ugly Stepsister can break the streak.

Since it seems you have Shudder, try Moloch. It's pretty good, but not elite.

Final Prayer is awesome, but found footage.

I don't know what you have or haven't seen

I watched Wolf Man Saturday night on Prime and liked it much more than I expected to.

I watched this on Monday night, and didn't like it as much as I wanted to. It wasn't awful, but felt more like a family drama than a horror. I also didn't care for the wolf man makeup.

Tonight, I tried Creeping Death on prime. I almost bailed after 30 mins because nothing was happening and the acting was so bad. To my pleasant surprise, it eventually produced a fairly creepy monster, solid death scenes, some chuckle-worthy lines, and a decent pair of boobs. Just the standard, schlocky horror I was hoping for.

I agree with Cokes. It had the bones to be a good slasher and Art is a good villain but sometimes it would get so over the top silly and ridiculous that it would take you out of the story. I would laugh everytime Art would just pull out a gun and shoot someone after he had been sadistically killing everyone with edged weapons the entire show.

Young me rented this on VHS several times for the spank bank material Preston was so fine in that movie.
