Each voter submitted a 10 show ballot. That's important. It's why something like Justified had no chance to be in the top 50. I'm surprised it made it at all (#83).


I don't like Girls, but Girls is considered by many to be one of the more influential comedies of the century -- a sitcom not focused on rich people, centering unlikeable characters, actually written by young people. It was a huge hit. It created a wave of female-led comedies that remain beloved, like Broad City and Insecure. The current show Adults on FX is so obviously trying to capture that same audience, as networks keep trying to reproduce the success of Girls.

It would be nowhere near my list, but I understand why many voters included it in their 10 best, for which I'm sure many included "importance/influence" in their criteria.


Boardwalk Empire never attempted anything more than coasting on the reputations of its Sopranos creator and Martin Scorsese. It's one of the most boring and empty dramas I've watched multiple seasons of. It was not widely beloved when it was airing. The idea that hundreds of voters would include Boardwalk Empire in a top 10 ballot for anything, outside of biggest disappointments, is ridiculous. You have to limit yourself to 10 shows, and you're choosing one of HBO's bigger whiffs that could most generously be described as pretty, detailed, and unable to meet its potential? I don't think so.

You should like what you like, but absence of a show you clearly liked more than everybody else in favor of shows you like less is not evidence of conspiracy.

Exactly. I've never seen it and don't care to, but I remember it being very popular with younger females

List should separate mini-series from TV shows.
BoB and Chernobyl are from a “TV show”
IMO those are on a list of their own.
