He looks like Christopher Lambert in that first shot.

But there can only be one Highlander.

No doubt. I've been waiting for Hollywood to remake this forever. I just want it to deliver.

I know this will be an unpopular opinion but I recently watched the original and wow has it not aged well.

It's nostalgia bait.

*ETA: it has some creativity, but it's not a great piece of film or anything. It's a fun ride (primarily thanks to Sean Connery in his most ironic role and Queen) but not technically brilliant.

And Cavil should have been the Kurgan in the remake. He is too large to play Connor, IMHO.

Nolan would’ve cast Serena Williams and Kevin Durant in this film

It definitely looks like they're emulating the original, at least in these scenes which have to be the runup to the battle with the Fraziers.

I watched the original a couple of weeks ago and I don't think it's lost anything. Clancy Brown is still terrifying and sequences like the kidnapping of Brenda are intense and gritty as hell.

Camera work in the original and the score by Michael Kamen were both outstanding.

Transitions between scenes were very well done.

He isn’t THAT big of a guy, he’s 6’1 and at biggest may have reached 220. That’s an athlete and in no way is he too big

He’s likely around 200 lbs walking around

Clancy Brown wasn't huge. He was just tall (6'3") and had an intimidating voice and presence. Cavil is an inch taller than Lambert.

No, but it's a really effective example of full use of media to achieve an effect. The visuals, action and music play almost as well together as in Blade Runner and doesn't eat up its outlandish story with a bunch of excessive plot. It just is what it is. Connery and Brown just lend the needed swagger.

(And I worry about the new one landing the Kurgan part, which was primary to the original. Brown was both menacing and comically entertaining... not an easy duo to pull off. If Bautista has anything approaching those chops, I haven't seen it to date.)

i like henry cavill. He likes cool franchises, wants to be in them, and legitimely cares about them.

but...

this son bitch is cursed. He cant get anything to stick no matter how much he wants it to.

i am afraid.

Yea I have to agree. I enjoyed the the first film and the series as a young lad but they are certainly not timeless works of art. I actually fell asleep during a recent re-watch of the first movie. Still I think there is potential here for a good time.

I loved it when I was young and saw it on VHS. When I watched it recently I burst out laughing repeatedly.
