The novel that was turned into a hit 1992 film starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston has been given a makeover by Netflix. Starring Jared Padalecki and Leighton Meester, it checks all the boxes of modern cinema.

The scene of her carrying him in her arms is going to beautiful.

It takes a black female character and is now played by a rich hetro white guy. Movie is filled with white people doing white people things. Rodeos. Snowball fights. Traditional nuclear family having wholesome Christmas. Feels like a remake a lot of poly board posters could get behind.

A no-nonsense bodyguard (Leighton Meester) is hired to protect a charming action star (Jared Padalecki) over the holidays.
So she is the bodyguard protecting him.
Because of course.
And I watched the trailer, and there is exactly zero "bodyguarding" being done at all. So this is just a Lifetime movie for white women wine moms to jerk off to.

Sounds like kryptonite to an equally large contingent.

Netflix just laid off 1000 people. The Hallmark Channel is an easy target.

Isn't Padalecki 6'4" or in that neighborhood? And not a beanpole either.

Hulu needs to make one with Rory Gilmore protecting Chuck Bass

Of all the downright absurd shite I watch, this one will likely be the most challenging to suspend disbelief on.
They could have at least made it a fricking dog or something.

I tried to watch the Total Recall remake a few days ago and watched Colin Farrell physically fight a humanoid-sized robot. This will probably be similar.

Is there an issue?
Yes, there is.
We've seen this, in real time. It's laughable.

What is happening?
There are real people somewhere and committees and such, and people who care about money and business, who signed off on this.
Absolutely absurd. Reality is breaking down.
