I'm going to go with young Jcorye1, it took me a lot to get over Joan of Arc being burned in Wishbone.

My mom thought Goodfellas was too violent and usually likes Romcoms and historical dramas, maybe a musical.

She recommended a movie to me once called Turtles Can Fly.

It’s about a group of kids in a Kurdish refugee camp. The leader of the kids is 12 or 13 and respected because he can fix broken TVs. Some of the kids have been wounded by land mines but everyone has a positive attitude. He develops a crush on a new girl. So far, sounds like a sweet international film, though different because some of the cast have IRL landmine injuries, right?

Well, the plot twist is the new girl was raped by soldiers from Saddam’s forces, got pregnant, and now has a baby from her rape.

The innocent kids all assume it’s her baby brother.

She repeatedly tries to drown her baby and eventually kills herself, and her brother who got his arm blown off by a land mine is unable to prevent his sister’s suicide by drowning because he doesn’t have two arms.

The leader of the kids at the camp realizes how cruel the world is. Roll the end credits.

I am stunned that my mom, who loves stuff like Sing, Paddington, and a fun Anne Hathaway rom com suggested this movie, which is maybe the most depressing film I’ve seen besides Grave of the Fireflies.

I don't remember but the movie name but the wrestler Kane was in it. I'd never seen horror movies or anything like that before, I was in high school at the time. A girl was hiding from Kane in a closet and her phone went off. Kane forced it down her throat.

A couple of weeks later I went see The Hills Have Eyes 2. That one messed me up for a while, too.

When we had our first child, I was traveling a lot for work. I had been on a job for about 2 weeks, and was really questioning my career choices and deciding about making a change due to missing my then young family.

One night I was bored from sitting in my hotel room, so I went to the movies. I decided to watch The Mist. I was literally the only person in the theater.

Considering all the context above, the ending absolutely fricked me. I just sat alone in the theater as the ending credits ran.

Also Event Horizon but when the ship's video log finally shows clips of what happened to the previous crew. Especially that one shot of the demon pulling the guy's insides out through his mouth

The Rape scene from the original The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was very scarring to watch sitting next to your wife.

I was an adult when this movie came out and it totally creeped me out when I realized what her intentions were with that sledge hammer and large chunk of wood.

Very cringeworthy scene.

When I saw it the first time it spooked me thinking about it and still does. Had he not known what he was in for it would be one thing, but he did know…

That whole movie in general is one of the only things I've ever watched that actually unsettled me

while i have seen many much more disturbing scenes from movies as an adult, the scene that "scarred" me the most was Hannibal Lecter sitting up in the ambulance with the other guy's face on. i saw SOTL at my buddy's house in Dallas when i was probably 11 or 12, and that scene fricked me up good.

as far as the most "messed up" scene, i guess i'd have to go with Bone Tomahawk, but seeing it as an adult wasnt near as scarring as seeing SOTL as a kid.
