What about The Thing (1982) when they were in the room drawing blood to see who was the thing, and then that blood jumped out of the petri dish?

that was a gripper.

There's a scene that sticks with me the most, it is the opening of Ad Astra. You feel claustrophobia, fear of heights, fear of death, and 15 fears you didn't know you had in the first 10-15 minutes.

The Sci-Fi aspect and the setting of it is key, I think, because while SPR was impactful, there was still familiarity with beaches, etc., that could "ground" you. That Ad Astra scene strips away nearly any anchor you have to safety (like hiding behind a hedgehog on Omaha Beach) in the real world.

Good call. That movie as a whole wasn't very good. But there are some really good scenes in it (the opening, monkey scene, Moon scene).

The storming of the cockpit scene in United 93.

You know how it ends but you hold out hope every time you see it that a different outcome occurs.

The bear fight in The Revenant. Found that though to watch and it just kept going!

Also the tank battle in Fury. Showing the shells just bounce of the Panzer.

Been a while since I've seen it, so couldn't pin down a single scene, but Black Hawk Down was my first thought.

The Next 3 Days.
Intense throughout, but the last half hour is edge of your seat/forget to breathe intense.
