It's somebody else's story and Rian needed me to be a certain way to make the ending effective. That's the whole crux of my problem. Luke would never say that, I'm talking about the George Lucas Star Wars. This is the next generation of Star Wars. I almost had to think of Luke as another character. Maybe he's Jake Skywalker, he's not my Luke Skywalker. But I had to do what Rian wanted me to do because it serves the story well. I still haven't accepted it completely. It's only a movie. I hope people like it. I hope they don't get upset.

I wish I would have stopped reading the reviews. It has bittered me because they are so right. Disney successfully made the most famous Jedi ever a complete buffoon. frick Disney

Omg, that can be explained away. That wasn't Luke Skywalker, it was his evil twin, JAKE Skywalker.

At this point, if they established that in the opening scene of Episode IX, I would gladly accept it.

Wow. Disney has a gigantic PR problem on their hands now, that no amount of bribing reviewers can fix. Mark Hamill carries more weight than any Disney exec does within the Star Wars phenomena, and he fundamentally opposes what they did to the storyline.

Are they going to blacklist him from Comic-con and things like that? He could kill the entire franchise.

It’s also a bit of Hamill looking out for his own interests. The new trilogy isn’t about the old characters, but rather the new ones. But if you think of it, he goes through everything in OT to train younglings only to see that something worse than vader came into being under his watch. I mean soldiers who go through traumatic experiences in war don’t come back the same.

Looks like they'll just have to reverse everything. I can see the opening crawl to Episode IX already.

Episode IX

NEVERMIND

Rey is in serious trouble! Unknown to her, she has been receiving advice and training from Sith Lord JAKE SKYWALKER.

The plot to trick her was aided by Kylo Ren and Supreme Leader Snoke, who teamed up to fake Snoke's death and now all three are rejoicing at successfully pulling off the deception.

But hopes looms on the horizon as Jedi Master LUKE SKYWALKER has heard about the deception and is super pissed and ready to kick their asses...

That is fricked up. Subtle jab is subtle but hasn't Star Wars already ruined the life of Jake Lloyd without the constant reminders that he never should have been allowed to be Anakin.

Welp, folks. Looks like Luke got the word that hes not coming back in IX. No way he bends Disney over like this, if they were going to try to rehabilitate Lukes image

I have no desire whatsoever to see IX

Its almost like its intentional at this point

yep, just like Yoda didn't give up and go into hiding after he failed to kill the Emperor.

Or how Obi-Wan didn't just leave Darth Vader for dead and go into hiding, and how he got into contact with the resistance and began Luke's training at a relatively young age.

Jedi never give up, they just get confused and do nothing for 18 years.

This was talked about at the end of Revenge of the Sith. Luke and Leia were put into hiding where the Sith could not sense their presence. Obi-Wan lived on Tatooine in close proximity to Luke to train him when he became old enough, but his uncle did not allow him to. Yoda went into self-exile somewhere where the Emperor could not sense him.

Neither of them gave up. They just went into hiding until the time was right to reveal themselves once more.

Watch Luke turn himself in to Vader on Endor and watch him toss his saber when Palpatine tries to get him to kill his father. That guy wouldn't murder his nephew.

At least Yoda didn’t try to murder Luke as he slept in the hut on Dagobah because he sensed he would be tempted by the dark side.

“I sense much fear in you. Murder you in your sleep, I must.”

Yikes.

How the hell do we get here? For all the shite people give George Lucas, and for how bad the prequels were at times, at no time did I ever feel like I wasn’t watching a Star Wars movie. At no time did I not feel like the events weren’t advancing the story towards the Tantive IV flying across the screen with the Garrett in chase on the opening of A New Hope.

This took 7 movies and countless stories of character development and said “Naw I know better. Screw you people.”

Yep. He says exactly that in an interview. I have to go find the exact quote, but it goes something like this :

I didn't try to make a good star wars movie the fans would like because if I tried that I might fail so I just did whatever I wanted and paid no attention to Star Wars lore or episode VII
