re: Mark Hamill: I think of Luke as a different character in TLJ, he's not my Luke Skywalker

Not true. He came out and said he didn't like what Rian did with Luke long ago. He also came out and said he got in trouble for saying that long ago.

You really want to get pissed off? Go watch it again.

I hate that we didn't even get to see the power and destruction of AT-AT 2.0s. Just a flirty little showroom glimpse and some pew-pew at a...a what? A pre-Force Ghost ghost?
Such a gip on so many levels. Seeing TLJ was like finally getting that dime from the bar to come home with you, and then finding nothing in the drawers.
Nadda. Ziltch.
I wasn't even revved enough to rub one out.
Pure suckage.

I am one of the ones that liked the movie overall (not saying it was great, but the good parts outweighed the stupid one liners, casino story, etc.).
Its not "because" it was different (and i probably would have also enjoyed a more tradition model movie like TFA to some degree), I just liked the interplay and development of the main characters as i've said before - the Rey / Kylo interplay is some of the most compelling stuff in the main storyline since the OT for me.

I kind of want to now.

No thank you. I will watch it on Netflix when it come out. Once was enough. Like I said, I liked the movie, but not enough to watch it over and over. I went home and watch the OT to get some Star Wars feeling back after this abortion.

I agree with all of what you said and would add to that the fact that the entire plot of TFA centered around find a map that Luke left so he could be found. R2 was set to reactivate by Luke when certain conditions were met. But now he supposedly doesn't want to be found and came to the island to die? Then why leave a map? I wonder what is going through Abrams' mind right now. TFA got completely shite on.

Luke completed the hero's journey laid out by Cambell in Return of the Jedi. I think the overall problem people are having is there was no real progress made from defeating the Empire. They are still rebels fighting an uphill battle which devalues the victory of the original trilogy. Luke did exactly what the guys that trained him did. Screwed up when things were going good, retreated, and hid until he could help the next hope. Its not a satisfying ending for the character. Hopefully they can do an animated series showing luke in better days not as a mopey prick.

quote:I fully agree. That was the best part of the movie. I actually wish Rey would have said yes to his offer at the end. That would have been a “I am your father” level twist type moment. How I wish that would have happened.

There was just so much other crap.

Were you just missing last summer?
quote:
As noted in my cover story, Hamill has a lot of thoughts on how Luke might have been reintroduced differently in The Force Awakens. He could have come in during Han Solo’s climactic scene with Kylo Ren, receiving some sort of Force-telepathy distress call from his sister, General Leia, but arriving too late to save Han from death. Or, perhaps, he might have materialized in the snowy forest of Starkiller Base, where Rey duels with Kylo. On his first read-through of the script, Hamill recalled, he got excited when the legendary lightsaber wiggled portentously in the snow. “The moment in the forest, when the saber rattles?” he said. “I go, ‘Oh, baby, here I come!’ And then it flies into her hands? I said, What the hell, she hasn’t even trained!”
Likewise, after reading Rian Johnson’s script for The Last Jedi, Hamill said, “I at one point had to say to Rian, ‘I pretty much fundamentally disagree with every choice you’ve made for this character. Now, having said that, I have gotten it off my chest, and my job now is to take what you’ve created and do my best to realize your vision.’
Then a month later.
quote:
"I got into trouble because I was quoted as saying to Rian that I 'fundamentally disagree with everything you decided about Luke,' and it was in-artfully phrased. What I was, was surprised at how he saw Luke. And it took me a while to get around to his way of thinking, but once I was there it was a thrilling experience. I hope it will be for the audience too."
So yea he voiced his opinion then got told by Disney to shut the frick up because you are losing us and you money.

I like kylo ren in this movie...but then after he kills snoke and chokes that red headed bitch you think he's going to be more deliberate and calculating...but he's still emo and impulsive. so the one really good thing about this movie, ends up being ruined.
and worse, the antagonist is treated like the protagonist in development.
he should no longer be conflicted, rey should be...she's new to all of this. the characters are written backwards and they try to give this movie moral ambiguity but they really don't and the one character they shy away from giving any kind of moral complexity is rey.
and worse, the antagonist is treated like the protagonist in development.

Masked Kylo looks so fricking badass. So many missed opportunities with this trilogy
