re: Mark Hamill: I think of Luke as a different character in TLJ, he's not my Luke Skywalker

I think Mark needs to move on. He had his moment, 40 years ago. It’s time for the next generation of characters to have their moment. The whole movie was about moving on from the past. Mark Hamill and the rest of you angry Star Wars fan need to move on as well
This is a simply absurd sentiment.

Congrats. I didn't think someone could make me hate this movie anymore than I already do. But you did it.
Extremely valid points all around.

Well this thread just reignited my anger for this movie.

Abrahams is a great director and story teller, I have faith in him to close it out strong.
James Beard is a great chef but if I gave him a spice rack and a dog turd he might be able to polish and season that turd but at the end of the day he can only elevate the ingredients he's given. Which was shite. He still has to serve you a plate of shite. No matter what he does to it, at its core, it's shite.
At a minimum I expect JJ to have to spend the entire first act retconning shite out of TLJ to get things back on track. So that’s gonna weigh down the story from jump street.

I tried to watch it again last night. Couldn't do it. Lasted an hour.

It was very disappointing not getting a kick arse Luke scene. I thought we'd get to see him in action. I know it's my fault for expecting that, but still a bummer.

I asked it in the Official review thread as well, but why was it so important to "move on?" I don't get that.
Additionally, all of the people that like the film because it did, why? Why did you like Star Wars in the first place if you viewed it as something that needed to "move on?"
And why is it a good thing that they did it in a way to upset people, effectively trolling them, so that you get something that has "moved on?" Why not go find a new property that isn't Star Wars that gives you what you need?
( There are ways to "move on" that aren't about active dismantling of something. Set the movie 500 years in the future, have THIS trilogy maybe already moving on from the force after the Galactic Rebellion Wars. Focus on characters that have no relation to the SKywalkers from the other side of the universe. The way they structured it was deliberate in actively dismantling what had been built. Why did it have to be done that way?)

I don’t know about that guy I quoted, but generally what they mean is “we took something important to you and purposely shite all over it. Now it’s ours and if you are upset about that, we’ll pretend like you are making a big deal out of nothing, even though we see it as a big deal ourselves or we wouldn’t have gone to the trouble of ruining it.”

We're going to ruin this franchise for Star Wars fans.
Why?
Because it's time to move on.
Why?
Because it's time to move on.

I wasn't going to take it that far, but yes

I wanna post this image so we can all know exactly how he felt about Luke Skywalker and how he feels about Luke’s inspiration on others in real life. He genuinely cared about the character.
