re: Mandalorian Episode 4 thread
The problem is that it forces the audience into a meaningless sub-plot devoid of any intrigue or relevance. It reminds me of the second to last episode in season 2 of Stranger Things.

You weave this thrilling narrative over the course of multiple episodes, and right when things get really interesting, you decide to ignore the main narrative and instead devote time to a trivial side adventure with characters that no one cares about. But even that episode served as a background and moment of growth for El.

Episode 4 of the Mandalorian was really just a waste of time.

I don't know the first damn thing about Star Wars, have maybe...maybe seen about 1.5 of the movies in total, only watching this with my kid...so you can shelve that.

I would say that time limitations of the show hurt the story they were trying to tell here.

I honestly cant figure out what this episode did to advance anything. Only thing i can see that it establishes is that theres no safe place and he’s always gonna be looking over his shoulder, but this episode wasnt necessary for that.

Shane is one of my favorite westerns of all time, and this episode was Shane in space.

Ehhhhh I don’t know about that. Logan was Shane. Heck they even told you so in the movie.

It also deepens what we know of his relationship to his religion. We also got to see him interact with average civilians, not other Mandalorians, mercenaries, or people otherwise adjacent to that mercenary world.

Not every episode of this show (or any other) should be about advancing plot. Show runners have to build the universe around their characters and conflict. Favreau isn't and shouldn't rely on nerds knowing everything about the SW universe already. This show is supposed to create new fans, not just satisfy old ones.

We were introduced to a fun mercenary character who we know we'll see again. We learned more about how things operate in the SW backwater.

Most shows that never slow down their plot movement get tiring very quickly. Disney wants this on for years, so I doubt they want to just blow through the story. This show is wholly unoriginal, well-made entertainment. Some weeks we'll get plot movement, some weeks we'll get a fun side adventure. Enjoy it.

I agree with this 100% but the funny thing is that was my exact issue with this episode. I dont feel like it really slowed down at all.... because the entire thing felt like gearing up for the next big fight scene and any other convos mostly 20 seconds and peripheral.

Slowing down, imo, that fight doesn’t happen for a couple episodes. Time is taken to make those connections which were just paid lip service in this episode more real. A couple 5 min convos with the natives....some real backstory. None of that happened because it rushed right through it.

JMO. Different strokes I guess.

The ladies in my office are obsessed with the romance angle of this episode and were dissappointed he didn't settle down with the girl at the end of the episode. 4 episodes in and they want the entire series shot to hell

Mando deserves better than a poor single mom. The day a bunch of women enjoy a star wars as much as me is the same day I stop caring about it entirely.

I liked this episode. Goes a lot into showing who he is as far as beliefs. Also, showed he has the same retirement desire as Thanos

He was close to letting her take his helmet off.

Whats the running explanation on this tracker device?

The best explanation I've heard is the tracker has a limited range. Maybe the size of planet or region of a planet. You still have to get intel to discover which planet though and it works by tracking exact target biometrics readings. This was just some fan site's explanation but it makes sense.

I swear this latest episode reminded me of one from TCW series. Anakin helps the natives learn how to fight against an invading group. I couldn't find the episode on it but I liked this and the last episode the best so far.

It's a trope that goes back to the pulp adventures from the start of the previous century.
