Yeah that’s it. How about both sides are equal opportunity? Villains can do this as well. Like the Fire Nation in Avatar, despite being a genocidal nation, was the only nation that employed women and didn’t give a shite. How about you do something nice and complicated instead of condescending?

You obviously don't know SW then. The Empire was very pro white male and rarely if ever allowed women or other species into their ranks. That's just part of their ideology.

Yeah, white males! They’re problem!

Hey let’s go find someone in the Rebellion besides Leia and Mon Motha that were in the Rebellion. Seemed to be pretty male to me as well.

People seemed to have a lot of theoires about Snoke and Rey and the movie went in a completely different direction so now those people are throwing a fit over being absolutely wrong

That may be part of it. But another part of it, at least for me, is I still know very little about what is going on in the larger context of the galaxy. In the OT, you got a sense of just how expansive and powerful the Empire truly was. They let you know through little lines of dialogue that they had absolute control of the galaxy, sans those star systems in open rebellion.

The sequel trilogy has done almost zilch to explain who the First Order is, where they come from, how they got started, and what their motivations are. Apparently at the beginning of TFA there was a Republic that controlled galactic governance. But if that is so, why was there a Resistance movement independent from that of the Republic? Wouldn't the First Order be something of an insurrectionist movement and therefore wouldn't the Resistance be the military arm of the Republic, fighting to defeat Snoke and his minions?

Where's the world building? Where's the context?

And that's just one of many problems I am having with this trilogy so far. Because the failures of The Last Jedi have weakened the effectiveness of The Force Awakens IMO. No questions were answered, no characters developed. They all stayed the same.

SJW?

This word has been overused so much it's lost all meaning. It's like the right's version of NAZI

You know it was SJW because all the bad dudes were white men, and nearly all the good guys were minorities and women, and because the entire movie was filled with unbelievable shite that was false in a way that was flattering to minorities and women.

And I hate purple haired woman far more than Jar Jar Binks.

People sensationalize everything in both directions these days, logical criticism like this just gets lost unfortunately.

This movie is supposed to be apart of a ‘Trilogy’ and yet it seems like Lucas Film and Disney have put zero thought into mapping out the 3 part plot outline ahead of time, and turned into Rian Johnson trying to start a dick measuring contest by crapping on everything TFA setup and brigs us full circle w/ a small band of rebels going against the big bad empire using Hope as fuel. Sad state of affairs it left us with.

I don't think the gripes are totally unfounded. Throughout SW, lineage plays an important role. Incorporating the mystery of Ray being an Orphan who doesn't know who her parents are into a SW plot, purposely plays into that. They could have avoided it all together in TFA script if they never intended to do anything meaningful with it. But if you really want to piss off movie goers, drop historically significant plot points and then head fake to something absolutely insignificant and meaningless.

Then you have the build up to Snoke. First introduced via hologram as this towering menacing puppet master.....the Furer of the galactic Nazi empire and successor to the all powerful Emperor Palpatine. He was a juicy character shrouded in mystery and everyone waited in anticipation to see how this important character would move the story forward. Head fake again.

It's exactly like that on IMDB as well. The negative user reviews are very specific. The positive ones are two or three sentences with no specifics at all.

It's Star Wars. It was always going to make a lot of money no matter how bad it was. The prequels sure did, but if their legacy of deserved scorn is followed or surpassed by this movie, Disney won't be able to convince themselves that they're geniuses just because the box office was good.

Blade Runner bombed but this is doing very well, as does every Transformer movie. We're going to get one of these every year until the end of time.

Is it a coincidence that as soon as the resistance is mostly female, they start being incompetent? I mean they blew 5 bombers trying to destroy 1 ship.

I believe Ben lied to Rey and it's a misdirection. She is a skywalker...not Luke's or Leias kid...but Star Wars is the story of the Skywalker family...

Nothing but love, love, love from everyone I talked to and as soon as I got on the Internet, hate, hate, hate.

It's the vocal minority crying. The poll at the top of the discussion page on r/movies shows as much. 90% of the comments are hate but yet the poll shows 72ish% scored it at a 7/10 or higher, and 8 and 9 are the most popular scores.

Now they're trying to claim that the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is fake:

I said from the beginning that people posting RT audience numbers after 2 days of showings was premature. ESP comparing them to the other movies with years of ratings.

It will go up from here. No way in hell is stays at 56

Could easily be misdirection for the reveal in the next movie. Just saying

Anyone notice the term “subverting expectations” getting thrown around by all of these positive reviews? Is that what they got in their talking points memo? Sounds like a way of excusing sh*tty writing to me. I can tell you everything wrong with the film and why it’s a mess but all I get from people who like it was “it was entertaining, you’re just upset it’s not the old Star Wars “.
