It was a good not great movie. The only real place I am seeing hate for it is the typical internet trolls like we are seeing here.
Did it have issues sure...but mostly people are butt hurt because the plot didn't go the direction they were hoping for.
The fun part is watching all the crying over a "fiction" movie.

It's like the director and writers read too much into fan theories about the last jedi, and then they tried too hard to throw curve balls based on that.
The most glaring one was Leia. I mean Carrie Fisher is dead in real life so the prevailing fan theory is she dies in this movie. NOPE. We can't let the fans be right on anything! She's still alive! We killed luke instead!

A lot of it has to do with denial. I have a hardcore star wars fan cousin that to this day still refuses to admit that the prequels were not good star wars movies. He also defends lucas making changes to the original trilogy on bluray. He chalks it up to lucas creative license.
ANH was a solid star wars movie, rogue one was solid to very good. This movie was just straight up BAD and cheapens the original trilogy characters in the worst ways possible.

The movie is a piece of trash with so many stupid moments that it’s almost impossible to list them. From the very first exchange of Poe to the Coca Cola commercial that was the ending.

That’s what I mean. It’s so freaking weird. I have talked personally to 5 or 6 friends/family that have seen it and every single one was over the moon about it like I was.

The movie wasn't completely terrible.
But the whole plot and the ships chasing each other is such shite it's hard to take the movie serious.
Plus the Finn/Rose detour was pointless.
That being said it was an ok movie, but the high ratings on this movie is just paid shills.

Yeah, I kept telling myself, well there is no way they bring back Leia, so Luke has to make it.
And then they decide to keep a terrible character who hasn't been interesting since she got out of that bikini. The actress cannot act for shite, and now they will have to use CGI just to kill her when they could have given her a perfectly good death in the beginning of the movie.

That's cool. Different strokes for different folks. My family and friends feel differently, and the packed theater I was in was noticeably unenthusiastic.
Did you like Leia flying though space? Did you think Luke's death was well-handled? Did you enjoy the casino Planet subplot, particularly given its ultimate uselessness and the fact that the Admiral should have simply told Poe the plan? Are you glad that people now wield the force more powerfully than ever before with less training? If you answered yes to all of these, good for you, we simply disagree.
