Actually, what will probably happen is that Disney will begin phasing out white, red-haired Ariel in favor of black Ariel, similarly to the way they’ve phased out evil Maleficent and replaced her with the nicer, sexier Angelina Jolie version. The only time you see the original evil version of Maleficent at Disney World is during Halloween.
The whole race/gender switch is nothing new for Disney. If you've ever watched the series Once Upon a Time, which ended last year, you'd know. They turned Red Riding Hood and Mulan into lesbians, Cinderella was Latino, King Triton and Ursula were portrayed by black actors, but Ariel was played by a white girl (with red hair). Also, in the series, and as originally conceptualized by Disney, Ursula was Ariel's aunt and Triton's sister. It's vaguely hinted at in the original Disney animated feature.

Ariel isn't from Denmark. She's from a mermaid kingdom.

Oh please. Jasmine’s realm is as fictional as Ariel’s.
I can’t wait to see a white Tiana. No reason there couldn’t be, right? I bet you’d love that.

Even though I am completely aware Twitter is a liberal wasteland, calling folks who are displeased with the choice "racist" is a surefire way of making sure the film isnt profitable
FYI Soy Boys dont pay to go see movies multiple times.

Yea i don't get the need to cry racism over this. Disliking this casting does not mean you are racist. Just as liking this casting does not mean you hate white people. We just happen to live in a world of extremes so it often seems that way.

I am fine with the casting but find it hilarious at how upset 20-40 year old guys are about the casting for a children’s movie.
