What requires Jasmine to be middle eastern? How about Mulan? After all, they're all just fictional stories right? So why should it matter what race they are? I'm just using your line of thinking here.
No, you aren't. Those fictional stories are specifically about people from the middle east and China.

Also forgetting Ariel becomes a Danish princess.
Only because she marries a Dane. She herself isn't Danish. She's a mermaid from a mermaid kingdom (Atlantica in the movie). shite, in the book she doesn't even marry the prince. Are we going to require that Sebastian is also always Caribbean now?

I gotta LOL that the plot of this movie is going to be an evil white lady giving a pretty black girl the business. Audiences will eat this up. White people always stealing from black people. Let's see how this plays out. You know what? I'm in.

Nobody has ever once said "mermaids can't be black", ever.
Y'all sure are mad about this one.

We aren't talking about a generic Mermaid. If they wanted to make a NEW mermaid movie, and introduce a new black mermaid character, fine.
But we are talking about a PARTICULAR fictional mermaid character, the one originally created by a Danish author.
Not really. The Disney animated movie is very different and only loosely based on the Hans Christian Anderson story. Why does it matter if Ariel looks different here when all that other stuff that wasn't in the original story a problem?
But hey, if you want to start a protest for all the red heads getting their roles taken have at it. Seems like more often than not when there is a race change it's the red head that gets flipped. JUSTICE FOR GINGERS!!!

I’m curious to see what or who they would cast if they ever did a live action Pocahontas

They’re still fiction right? In fiction there’s bending of rules so why not bend the rules regarding race? If you can believe a genie and dragons exist what’s to stop from changing the race and writing it off as adoption? You’re picking and choosing when to apply logic in the story.
Also you said that it shouldn’t matter because as long as she can sing. So why should it matter what race they are?
People just want Arial (a very recognizable character) to look like her character.
Disney knows exactly what they’re doing with this

The Little Mermaid is about people from Denmark.

And with that decision, this movie has officially been turned into a flop because no kids are going to make the connection of a black Ariel and the Ariel from the cartoon, nor are the kids' parents.
Good job Disney!

Hollywood is only going to get more SJW and they're going to shove it down your throat whether you like it or not.
Spare me your convenient moment of lucidness.

Dr RC is one of the biggest soy boys I've ever seen.
He's probably figuring out what kind of July 4th fireworks to get for his wife's son tonight.

You know what's coming right? The gay couple in a Pixar film. And then a decade later, the transgender character.

It’s going to be pretty funny when they’re going to have to put black Ariel dolls on shelves next to the cartoon Ariel at stores across the world.

Funny how the "who cares, the race of the actor doesn't matter" seems to only come out when it's a white character being portrayed by a non-white.
I thought it pretty dumb to cast Christian Bale as Moses. I want good casting, and good casting includes appropriate looks. Just like we won’t see a blonde Superman or a fat Oriental Wolverine, why in the world must there be a little mermaid with anything but red hair? Red hair is her thing.

never understand why the Hispanics aren't more upset they don’t get cast as lead roles? They make up 3x the population African Americans do.
Good point. Should be more Orientals too.

I don't care that she is black. But this girl is very odd looking. Her eyes are too far apart. Let's talk about that.
