I watched HA1 last night and watched Four Christmases two nights ago. Four Christmases seemed like such a rushed story that had way too much going on and not enough depth. It made me appreciate how HA1 was set up to make leaving Kevin make sense, at least in a movie sense. I know this has all been mentioned before, but I never really appreciated until last night.

- The dad throws away his ticket mixed in with the wet napkins and milk, so they don't have an extra at the gate.

- Kevin's mom says they will put Fuller somewhere else to sleep, so they don't have two sets of parents realizing one of their kids is upstairs.

- They have the neighbor kid being a pest for a few minutes for what seems like random, comic relief. They also have Buzz acting like an arse while the cousin counts kids. She doesn't realize she counts the neighbor.

It's all nicely laid out in those first 15 minutes.

Also, I got irrationally angry at how Peter is talking to Pesci and the pizza kid, then Buzz just says Come on dad, and they walk off. What homeowner leaves two strangers in their foyer?

So over the past 3 days I went back and read every single page. This thread is entertaining as frick, and I certainly had no idea it started in freaking 2011.

To my surprise, I commented on this in 2013, but I have zero memory of such

To contribute my analysis of the movie. Idk if this has been stated before, but the other kids must all legit hate Kevin. I don't buy for a second that they didn't realize Kevin was missing. At least for the parents sake, you can say their focus was on making the flight. The kids definitely knew Kevin wasn't there. He would have been sitting beside someone in the van ride to the airport in HA1. In both movies, someone enjoyed an empty seat instead of having to sit next to Kevin in the plane.

Kevin's siblings/cousins knew he was not there and said nothing. The parents may have been extremely negligent, but the other kids legit hated Kevin's guts. They knew he got left behind and were glad about it.

Also for HA2, how tf do you run in front of your kids. Idc if you're in a rush, if you can't hold your kids hands, you make sure they are ahead of you at all times so you can keep your eyes on them. Seeing as Kevin is the youngest, he is the one you would be sure to watch moreso than anyone else.. Who tf just runs and expects their kids to just automatically keep up. Shitty parents that's who.

Also, I know that there was a Home Alone 3 & 4. But I have kinda always held out hope they would make a Home alone movie where Macauley Culkin comes back as Kevin as the parent that leaves his child behind somewhere. Idk if Culkin would sign on to do that, but that's a movie I would definitely watch.

Although, if they made this movie, that would interfere with my head canon that Kevin and Jigsaw are one in the same.

That one was on Kevin for the Talkboy batteries.

Okay so I just watched the end of HA1. The mom gets home and looks at Kevin and says “oh honey I’m so sorry.” Then he smiles and they hug.

Then the entire family comes home. The dad is like “oh hey, Kevin. Are you okay?” And the siblings basically say hello. Then after about two minutes of fake niceties, including Kevin giving them his shopping list, everyone literally goes their separate ways and leave him alone.

His family hasn’t seen him for the better part of a week and they literally are just like “oh hey” and then they leave him all alone again. What a shitty family. They all very clearly hate him and don’t care a single iota if he is okay or not. Or want to hear what happened.

Ans the flip side of that is even though Kevin kinda hates his family, by the end of the movie he’s forgiven them and likes them again. So why in the hell would a kid not be like “oh my god, these thieves kept trying to break into the house and I had to fight them off” and shite? That would be the first thing he would’ve done. Just weird family dynamic I guess.

And I think I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but the same thing happens in HA2. They don’t even care that he is back alone and in Central Park.

Has this been asked? When the Little Nero pizza guy gets "shot at" and scrambles to leave, does he not call the police and give them the address to go check it out?

Yeah, Peter McCallister has two very memorable reactions, for me at least, to Kevin being safe and sound.

HA1 - He gives him the giggle then shoulder nudge before walking off to watch TV that we all wish our father's would have given us as children.

HA2 - He freaks out about a sub $1,000 room service bill. First of all, after all the shite that the staff put Kevin through in that movie, that is getting comped. Second, even if it isn't comped, your son has been by himself in one of the largest cities in the world. Be glad he is alive and consider that room service bill the price you have to pay for being such a shitty parent 2 years in a row.

Not to mention that massive suite was complementary. That suite would go for like 3K a night at least.

To be fair, that's a hell of a room service bill, especially in the early 90s.

And I agree that Kevin just needs to explain to upper management the bullshite that the hotel staff did, and he would get that and a lot more comped. shite, Rob Schneider ruffled through Kevin's mom's purse (or his dad's bag or whatever) at one point. Then the shite that Tim Curry pulled with literally spying on a guest in their own bathroom, he would likely be fired and potentially arrested, and the hotel would bend over backwards to accommodate Kevin and his family.

Funnily enough, Kevin did actually speak to upper management.

Since this is the overanalyze thread, what are our theories on why Kevin doesn't tell anyone about what happened?

1. He thinks his wish kept his family away, and he doesn't want to be blamed for the ensuing danger that occurred because of it?

2. He used things he wasn't supposed to protect the house, and he is worried about getting in trouble?

Also, Kevin worked miracles to get that house in order before going to bed. Not only did he pick up all the various things that were on the floor, but he had to repair a bunch of items.

1. Marv damaged the frame of the door to the basement when he tried to pry it open with a crow bar

2. Kevin destroyed the back of his tree house when he flew into it.

3. I would assume the flames bouncing off Harry's head would leave some char marks on the wall.

4. Harry likely broke the door when barging through the kitchen door.

My guess is he’s hoping some member of his family will slip on the ice going down into to the basement.

There's a documentary on Netflix called "The Movies that Made Us" that features behind the scenes and how the scripts came about. One of the episodes has Home Alone. It's very interesting.

Caught this episode yesterday, and it's fantastic. Marv and Buzz being interviewed was pretty sweet too.

I just want to know if OML ever posted his handwritten notes. That has bothered me for damned near a decade now

Love to see them.

Also, caught HA2 on Freeform tonight, assholes removed a ton of scenes (half of the WTC, Marv and stapler, the tool chest)

My 4 year old discovered this on Disney+. I have watched this entire movie at least 10 times this week

- the first night of robbing, Harry shows Marv the house lights are on timers. Says a street number and now, and the lights come on. Waits a few seconds, says another street number and now, and those lights come on. Few seconds later does it a 3rd time

If we assume the first house set the lights for say 7pm, did the next house set it for 7:00:10 and the next house for 7:00:20?

And its pretty amazing harrys watch is synched up to the second with 3 different houses. How could he possibly know the exact time they would come on?
Assuming the 3 homeowners told him the time the lights would come, they would have all said say 7pm.
He wouldnt know which house would come on afew seconds earlier

And the old man salts the sidewalks every night
-he doesn’t notice the same plumbers van parked outside multiple houses late at night? Over multiple days?

How long was Kevin dancing with the mannequins? They could have come by at any time. Was he doing it for hours?

In Home Alone 2 when Kate arrives in NYC and is wandering the city looking for Kevin... and then she goes to the house that Kevin had booby trapped to see if he is there. She knocks on the door, could you imagine if she had tried to open the door instead? She would have received the brunt of the staple gun.
That would have been super satisfying to see. That bitch would have deserved it.

Watching HA2 and noticed that everyone dressed like an adult at the airport. Kevin would be better dressed than half of the people at airports now a days. Sad.

Yeah, watching this on FreeForm, and they edited the bricks and the staple gun. How fricking dare they!
