Couldn’t recommend it more for a family.

HO\ow old are your kids? My son is 4 and wants to see it, but I didn't know if that was a bit too young for it.

He loves the original btw (minus the boat/tunnel part).

That's good to hear. The ratings overall are good, so I'll check it out eventually.

In your opinion: Appropriate for a 5 and 7 year old?

What's the interest with this? It just doesn't seem like the kind on movie that needs 3 takes.

Fwiw I am a big fan or Gene Wilder's Wonke and even Johnny Depp offered the character an interesting angle. But why again? I just assume it's to wokify the characters.

I will say the trailer had me impressed at the visuals (it looks like they actually gave their visual effects team time to get everything right). Does that hold true for the movie?

It's not a remake. It's a prequel.

My 7 year old liked it more than anyone. He was on the edge of his seat.

There are a couple “bad guys” but they keep them funny enough to where I don’t think they’d be scary to kids.

I saw it and thought it was good and relatively safe. It seems fine for kids and although you can read messaging in parts there's nothing a typical parent would worry about their kids seeing.

I wasn't captivated but was entertained enough. TC was fairly good in the part and at least serviceable for the singing and dancing moments.

The writers made the somewhat bizarre choice to have young WW illiterate (because "he put all his effort into making chocolate"). That was hard to take in naturally given the need for things like recipes and reading maps for the places he went. I wouldn't say the cast was diverse since I don't recall anything other than black and white characters (no Asian, Latin, just lots of black characters). Dinklage successfully fricked some little people out of jobs but HG was fine (if not as good as he was in Paddington).

7 of 10. Worth seeing for people with kids. Should have legs in the holidays for that reason.

Good to hear. I like Chalamet on screen, but the chances of this being watchable were pretty slim. We'll give it a try once it's streaming.

What prequel backstory is needed?
Silly comment. Nothing is ever NEEDED.

Doesn't mean it can't happen though.

To answer your question, it shows the events leading up to Wonka obtaining the Chocolate Factory, which he already had in the Wilder movie.

I have so little interest in this movie it can’t be qualified.

And Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is an all time great in my book.

So tired of the lack of imagination for bigger budget or heavily marketed movies. Either a lack of imagination or a lack of writing talent, but either reason leads them to remakes or trying to piggy back off a more talented writer’s previous work.

I watched Whiplash again the other night and kept thinking, more of this please.

No fricking way you just actually used the term NPC?

You’re like a literal stereotype of a neckbeard at this point

100% I did, and it applies to anyone who seal claps for forced diversity no one asked for.

Except I'm not. Not even a little. How can you claim something is 'literal' when you have no clue who I am, or what I look like? Again, NPC responses by virtue signaling clowns eager to suck down new content.

Seek help. The woke mind virus is wicked bad for ya.
