The longevity is impressive, but he's really not a dramatic character in the traditional sense. More like an avatar for "DA". We know very little about Jack given the years he's been on TV and his character really doesn't change that much over time.

I've seen all 400+ episodes of Law and Order (except the new one- it sucks balls) and I have a love/hate relationship with Jack. I love the actor but the character pisses me off so bad.
Pulling deals, charging and trying defendants to make them flip, going after the gun maker instead of the murderer, etc... His moral compass pisses me off sometime..
