You should ask the age of each person that screams “YES”.

43 years old here and I suggest you watch it. Wont blow you away but it’s legit.

These days, it would be better if it was one long season of bidge watching for 10+ hours.

Watch the Extended Editions. Watch them in 2 hour segments.

Absolutely

I'm not even a fan of the fantasy genre and have seen this trilogy multiple times....and own the films.

I haven’t seen any of it. I guess I never did pay it any mind, always thought of it as something for kids. But it has recently come to my attention that it may be enjoyable. What do you guys say?
Trolling, right?

No, not trolling, I promise. I knew it would be hard to believe but I have never watched any of it. But I will soon.

Watch all the movies, read all the books, watch the animated specials but NEVER be that doosh that says "muh....the books were much better".

Take it all in and enjoy each work on its own.

yeah, hard to believe. The films are beautifully done, and the acting is amazing.

I am a lifelong Tolkien fanatic, having read The Hobbit in 4th or 5th grade and gone on from there. I was in line on Day One for each film’s opening, bought each DVD in the first week, and bought the extended editions immediately upon release.

There is some good advice in this thread.

First, you do not know for certain that you are going to enjoy the concept, because you’re not familiar with the source material. There’s no reason for you to set aside enough time to watch all three films initially. Start with Fellowship and see if you like it. If not, you’ve kept that extra five hours available.

This is probably a matter of pure preference, but I’m not sure that the extended editions are really worth the extra time for someone who is not a Tolkien reader. For me, the extra and extended scenes were fun, but I don’t know that they truly added that much to the story.

A casual fan might more-enjoy the shorter versions of each film, because Jackson did a masterful job condensing the story for the original theatrical releases.

This.

It’s what makes it a classic.

When the Fellowship of the Ring came out, I was aware of the books (my dad always talked about them), but I was never a big reader. My dad took me to see it and I instantly loved the first movie. Immediately got my hands on the books and started reading them all.

In my opinion it helped me visualize everything going forward while reading. Read through all of the books before the Two Towers came out. It will go down as the greatest trilogy I have ever seen. I watch them all once a year around Christmas time.

I think the Osgiliath flashback is too important to skip. Otherwise Faramir just comes across as a dick.
