Is Deadpool series just a Gen X moneygrab?

I'm not into comic universes but my wife is watching it in the other room and it just sounds like 80's nostalgia music video compilation.

Funny, more millennials say it was their childhood but I guess it can be both?
Dumb story, but still well told.
Took my money and I’m ok with it.

Hearing that now in the beginning of Part III my wife just started. Definitely not GenX, I agree. The first two installments, however, completely genX.

And we're back to Huey Lewis and the News.

I watched Deadpool & Wolverine last night.
I “get” what they are going for with the Deadpool character, but simply don’t find it that appealing personally.
Rather than say it’s a money grab itself, I took it as more of a self-referential, unapologetic commentary on the Marvel universe. Deadpool’s fourth wall breaking and his joke at the end about holding hands “while Madonna played” (can’t recall his exact words) tend to make me think this.

NSync, actually, but I just listen to them so I can make fun of them. Yeah, that’s it

Well worth the money… they did give us Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the yellow suit.

Your wife has spent all day with Ryan Reynolds while you listen to it from the other room. Sounds romantic.

And that’s different from every superhero movie ever in what way exactly?

Using popular music from older eras isn't exactly a new gimmick. Ever seen Goodfellas? Reservoir Dogs? Shitloads of other movies. Joker probably took the mixing of old music and violence to another stupid level.
Of course action movies are only made to make money, and Gen X probably made up the original core audience because of the character.

Madonna is the only thing I can think of from the 80s. Theres the Grease song when they fight in the Honda and then of course all the late 90s/early 00s music.
In case you didn't know, a lot of it is easter eggs to his wife, Blake Lively, who was on Gilmour Girls.
Like his comment "There are 206 bones in the human body, 207 if I'm watching Gilmour Girls"

Watched it a few nights ago.
It was a little too on the nose meta for me...everything felt so overly forced to the point of ridiculous, but I suppose that was the intent. And I still enjoyed it.

my exact thought. i mean i enjoyed all the jokes and if you know pop culture, about the actors themselves, the MCU, or most anything, it's a joke every 5 seconds.
which is fine. i was entertained but it was a lot like Spiderman:NWH just a bit too much for my senses. sounds dumb... i liked them both, but it was extremely forced.

The Deadpool comic has always been a never-ending meme. The movies replicated that perfectly.

Gossip girl is the show he mentions. Gilmore girls is a totally different show

Let me spell it out for you...
The first movie brought in ~$781M, the second brought in ~$786M and the third is still going at over $1.3B.
The first one was a great story with unique and creative storytelling. The second was a decent story with a bit more fan-servicing by bringing in Cable and doing Juggernaut extremely good justice (along with his fight with Colossus). The third movie was a decent story but heavy on the fan-servicing, but by that time much of the audience had become fans (as evidenced by the massive jump in box office sales).
You don't make over $2.5B in revenues being "just" a money-grab, there has to be some sort of entertainment value there to bring the money in.

it's a guy perfectly playing a character he always wanted to play and killing it.
