I haven’t watched commercials on TV in a long time

I usually only stream my ad free apps so I never really watch regular TV commercials.
Sure, I see commercials when I watch a Braves game for example (which are always the same commercials) - but they don’t ever have regular commercials promoting mainstream regular products.
But the way I do TV, I just don’t ever see a lot of everyday, regular commercials.
I signed up for Paramount+ the other night and for some reason the app I am paying for has regular commercials for like detergent, soft drinks, cereal, etc. you know, the type of commercials for products I grew up with watching on TV.
Of course Paramount+ doesn’t allow for me to fast forward so I had to watch normal commercials.
I am dumbfounded at how fricking stupid our country has become.
Commercials for like Tide detergent, pepto bismal, alka seltzer, toilet paper, State Farm, deodorants, shampoo, Burger King, etc etc etc
I just don’t understand how a group of think tankers can sit around a conference room and come up with this shite and think they are remotely funny.
It’s been so long since I have watched regular tv commercials, it was honestly a culture shock to me at how stupid these billion dollar companies making these shite awful commercials think outside of the public eye.
It was quite frightening knowing that these shitty everyday commercials are effective. They are dumb, cheesy, not funny and pretty fricking embarrassing to think that we live in a time where people come up with this shite and the audience actually likes this shite.
I seriously thought I was watching North Korea propaganda commercials for everyday products. It was bizarre.

Same here. I started recording most of the shows that I watch back in the VCR days. On the rare occasions that I'm exposed to them, it's like nails on a chalkboard.
I have the same reaction to day time talk shows. There's something incredibly annoying about the sound of them(all of them). The hosts usually sound incredibly fake and the audiences sound all too eager to whoop it up for never ending applause sign flashing.

Every drug ad has to explicitly tell you not to take the drug if you're allergic to it.

It doesn't matter whether or not they're funny. It only matters if you remember them.d

I dont even understand why drug ads are even legal. If you actually needed the medicine, a doctor would tell you about it, not you telling him "Hey I think I need this prescription I saw on TV for my ED"

I always have the mute button ready to go.

It wasn't that long ago that prescription drugs weren't allowed to advertise. Now every other commercial is "If you have this ailment, take our medicine *do not take if you are allergic to our medicine. If you are a living breathing human, do not take our medicine. If you die from our medicine consult with your doctor.*"

Same for me too. And same app was the exposure. Trying to watch Rabbit Hole while enduring those commercials was mind numbing.
I still hear Derek Jeter saying “Let me tell you about the greatest lineup ever…” and it being a fricking Subway commercial

They are the worst. It's all fake diversity nonsense formatted in unclever and unfunny productions.

There used to be a joke that the only medical school students who went into psychiatry were the ones who needed a psychiatrist.
Marketing and advertising are kind of the same for the business world. It's where all the misfit toys and weirdos wind up.

The only time we watch anything live is during sporting events. And yes, I am baffled at the woke stupidity. I really don't know why companies waste money on commercials anymore.

Everything that used to be funny would get cancelled now.

The majority of commercials for everyday products have always been pretty dumb

We now live in a world were everything and anything is scrutinized as being "offensive". And with the advent of social media, 20 people (out of a nation of 330 million) being offended constitutes a negative market response rather than being dismissed as 20 joyless/overly sensitive losers.
Many times there is degree of offensiveness in humor/comedy. There ALWAYS has been. But now with virtually anything susceptible of being considered offensive, good humor/comedy is incredibly tough to create because you are always walking on eggshells.
I guess a more simplistic answer is that leftists continue to suck the joy/humor out of life because they are joyless, miserable people. So this is the best companies can do to fit within "society's" guidelines for humor.

which is somehow miraculously free of 100% of side effects.

Exactly.
The consumer can't go out an purchase the product. He/she can only purchase it if allowed by a doctor.
But you know what, pharmaceutical companies have a TON of money. That allows you certain privileges. Such as literally creating ailments/conditions to create a need for their otherwise useless medicine. Much of this stuff is medicine that was being developed for a specific purpose and didn't work in the R&D stage for that particularly purpose. But it did have other side effects...which created a need to create an ailment for that medicine.
Viagra is one of the most famous examples. Viagra came out of R&D for heart medicine. It didn't work for heart treatment. But it did give men boners. So an entirely new ED market was created...and advertised (very successfully)

When you've been given legal immunity by Congress there is less of a need to warn your potential customers of the side-effect at the point of sale because they can't turn around and sue.

I noticed the same thing about Paramount+. Their commercials are a lot like what I saw while watching Nickelodeon or Saturday morning cartoons in the 90s.
There were plenty of bad, dumb, cheesy commercials back then too. The part that sucks about paramount+ is that it makes you watch the same 2 or 3 commercials over and over and over.

Yes about daytime talk shows! I sometimes fall asleep watching the 11:00 local news and when I wake up with the tv still on there will be one of these daytime talk shows - I know exactly what you are thinking about those shows because I think the exact same thing!
