No, House of the Dragon is not the greatest show ever. It's not even remotely close to those seasons, nothing is.

Season one is maybe on par with seasons 5-6. Season two isn't very good outside of 2-3 episodes. It's still a very good show and worth a watch, but season two definitely drops in quality. Mainly because of the pace the showrunners decided to go with. Season two being a trailer for season three like the previous poster said is a great way to put it.

Nothing is that good. HotD doesn't even come close. It has a few moments and some great performances but the story is shite. They're butchering Fire & Blood. A lot of the new plot points are downright ridiculous.

Shame.

I lost interest pretty early on in Season 1. Not a knock on the show, really, I just wasn't interested in the storyline.

it's ok but it's been kind of slow developing so far
at the end of latest season it definitely will pick up the pace starting next season which of course we have to wait until 2026

Go to Home Depot. To the home cleaning section. Buy a replacement mop head, the kind that are used for washing large floors and then are rung out.
Take the mop head home and braid it sloppily into pseudo dreadlocks.

Now grab some beers and put the mop on your head so you can be a part of House of Dragons. Turn on TV and decide which character you'd like as your dragon riding friend.

First season is on par with Game of Thrones season 5, where they were starting to riff on their own, but that they still had some source material to work with. The second season is basically a season long tease where only a couple things happen, and then nothing happens after.

Solid writing, but the pacing is weird (first season has a ton of time skips while the second season is agonizingly slow). Most of the characters are decent, but lack the charisma of the actors/characters in Game of Thrones (with one notable exception WHO IS THEN COMPLETELY SIDELINED IN SEASON 2 FOR NO REASON!!!!)

It's a solid 7-8/10 show if you like dragons, political intrigue, bad wigs, and soap opera level acting. What is most frustrating is how frequently it gives you glimpses of being an epic 10/10 show, but then ultimately disappoints with more blue-balling bullshite.

I feel like it's a show that would be much better off binge watched rather than watching an episode at a time. I'll never have the patience to just wait until it's done before watching, but I do think it would be more enjoyable that way.

It's fine. Don't let Siskel & Ebert ruin it for you.

Great explanation. I found it to be just Okay. I guess I had such a high expectation since GOT was so good, it just couldnt live up to them.

Watch episode 1 of season 2 and then watch the last episode of season 2 and you will ask yourself "did I just watch the same episode?"

I mean, for better explanation for others, some great moments, some cool moments, lot of meh and whatever. Wasn’t a chore to watch, no ragrets, probably will never rewatch.

Season 1 was really good. Season 2 was a letdown due in part to HBO budget cuts forcing them to move a major battle to season 3 that shouldve been in Season 2. Hate the 2 year waits between seasons to only get 8 episodes instead of 10

Almost finished with season 1, really good show.

Lots of political intrigue.

It’s not Thrones but few are.

Ready to be hurt in season 2 .

Not nearly as good.

I tapped out before the end of season 1. It's like the producers thought we wanted JUST dragons, debauchery, and sex, because that was PART of what made Game of Thrones different. So they took that and amped it up a lot, but most of the charm and charisma was missing.

You know that scene from Gladiator, where Maximus walks out and insta-kills his opponents brutally and yells "are you not entertained?"
I felt like that was the actual mindset of the producers with HoTD. BAM, dicks, gore, uncomfortable stuff in your face... are you not entertained?
