maybe i just wasn't paying attention but, the throne is actually slowly killing the king. didn't realize that what caused the thing on his back. and i thought the blood on his finger was dripping down his arm from the back wound.
The lore of the Iron Throne is that it sort of determines who is a good ruler and who is not. Whenever they show a king constantly getting cut by the throne, it's used to show that they are weak and not meant to rule long. I read the book, but I can't really recall how Viserys eventually dies. These cuts may kill him, but they are also used to give another example of his weakness.

I am confused. The books for the original GoT was full of character depth. Hell they had their own chapters as if if each one had their own book.
O I know ASOIAF does, I've read them multiple times. Character development was amazing in those obviously.

My comment was in regards to the original when the first episode came out after reading the books I knew a lot about them but in this series I know nothing for the most part in regards to the characters and I am starting from scratch.
Got ya. I thought you were meaning you read Fire and Blood and had a lot of depth on these characters going in. That's why I was like yea that's not possible, Fire and Blood gives you very little depth to each character.

so...it appears that the current valeryon family members ARE related to the current targaryens, via the marriage of aenys I and his valeryon queen. how they got to be black is as yet undetermined

I'll trudge on, but if she turns out to be a lesbian, I'm out.
I also hate that everything has to be woke but this wouldn't bother me much. The Tyrell dude was gay in GoT, it wasn't to be woke but it was an issue socially for the character.

Liked the 1st episode
They gotta spend some time laying bricks and working their way up to payoffs, but I liked what I saw. Felt like we're getting back to classic GoT episodes.

Yeah in the books Valeryons and Targs looks just alike from them marrying each other for centuries

The word you're looking for is blackwashing.

you'd rather a terrible white actor than a good black one.
this doesn't change the story at all.

Who said the white actor would be terrible? All of the other white actors seem to be doing okay. While I think the actor playing Corlys is a good actor, the only reason they made him black is because the show writers wanted him to be black so “there wouldn’t just be a bunch of white people on the screen”. Their words.

It’s contrary to the source material, unnecessary and done for a political purpose. There are black cultures in Essos and if they wanted to take liberties with the story, which they always do, they could expand the scope of the story to include these other cultures and races. That’s what the complaint is about, it’s ham handed political drivel.

Think about it like this, people had a negative reaction about the character Daario Naharis’ physical portrayal in the original series which had nothing to do with the actors race. It’s no different here only in this case there was an agenda behind it.

No shock here, the premiere was HBO’s most watched premiere of all time
I believe Jeremy Johns summed it up best. All of the people who hated game of thrones ending but loved the show before season 8 wanted that taste washed out of their mouth.

Just watched it again (had a few beers last night). Really liked it. Enjoyed the talk at the end between the King and his daughter. One thing that needs work is the close captioning. It’s really small and when the Princess was wearing the yellow dress it was almost impossible to read.
I’m not talking about the CGI but the dragons seem “lanky” compared to Dragoon. I thought the further back you went the bigger they got?

The very top of that tree bothers me. Do they not know which sister of Aegon gave birth to which kid? Why are both sisters connected to Aenys and Maegor?

Rhaenys is the mother of Aenys and Visenya was the mother to Maegor, but I guess that chart joined the line to denote both sisters were married to Aegon at the same time when both children were born?
