According to the Hollywood Reporter, he said: "I don’t see myself casting a white dude as the lead in my movie. Not that I don’t like white dudes. But I’ve seen that movie.

Why does universal need to know the race of the family? Serious question.

"The way I look at it," he explained, "I get to cast black people in my movies. I feel fortunate to be in this position where I can say to Universal, 'I want to make a $20 million horror movie with a black family.' And they say yes." It's a formula he's not interested in messing with. "I don’t see myself casting a white dude as the lead in my movie. Not that I don’t like white dudes," he said, nodding over to his moderator pal Roberts. "But I've seen that movie." The line drew loud applause and shouts of agreement. "It really is one of the best, greatest pieces of this story, is feeling like we are in this time — a renaissance has happened and proved the myths about representation in the industry are false."

That’s fantastic actually.

So, as a black man, he gets the opportunity to use his gift to help diversify the horror genre outside of the token black guy who dies early in the movie. And he decides to capitalize on that.

That’s great. The horror genre needs a good shot in the arm anyway. I don’t see the issue, at all.

And I also find the criticism of it hilarious when all I ever see is “if you want (insert race/gender here) in your movie don’t remake something, do it yourself”.

while i don't overly agree with Peele's sentiments here, it's not something that fires me up. It's his prerogative and I've seen nothing from him that's playing the race card. He's just choosing to narrow the aperture at which he makes film. I think he could miss out by that.

Larson's comments were a lot less direct and a lot more hateful to be honest. Hell Evans' comments about Brady and Trump were worse than this.

i do always laugh when people don't realize the pot shots that Get Out was to white liberals, be it people on the left or right.

He said lead. There is a difference.

It is a racist statement, irrespective

no getting around that, just regular old racist.
There is a standard that has been set for comments like the one he made.

I don’t understand how people don’t see that.

You don’t have to agree with it, but it is the standard.

Equality for all.

That's not racist. That's just saying he'd rather write and direct movies centered around a black protagonist. Which makes sense since he's, you know, black.

This is a lie, he's just as much white as he is black. He prefers his blackness.

Jordan Peele’s racism is his problem to deal with. I won’t pay to watch anything he produces/directs again.

I mean, it's one of those things that would cause a complete shitstorm if it was said about black people.

Wesley Snipes once said a lot of non-white actors weren't that good.

Jordan Peele’s doing what bigoted a******* encouraged us to do when they were decrying POC being centred over white characters or cast in roles they thought should be reserved for white actors. 'Make your own stories but don’t put them in *ours*.' He did it and they’re still mad.”

This works fine as long as blacks stop demanding white filmmakers cast more blacks.

Instead we live in a world where mandatory "diversity" only applies to things that are white.

I don't find the statement racist. Sorry.
I mean. . .it IS racist.

If you reverse the races and find it racist, then the statement proper is racist.

If Tarantino said he was not going to have a black lead in anymore of his films, it would be called a racist statement. Because it is.

So it is also a racist statement from Peele.

I just don't care about it.

I don't watch Jordan's stuff to develop a worldview, but rather to be entertained.

God, people love to overreact to shite.

Jordan Peele is doing you all a favor, dumbasses. He's saying that if you go to his movies, you will be forced to listen to people in the audience talk to the screen for two hours, so beware.

You people.

I don’t care about the standard that has been set by irrational people. I’m capable of thinking for myself. His comments are not racist. If a white filmmaker made similar comments, it would not be racist.

Don't know if I'd call the white guy racist. But I'd sure as hell say the dude has willfully shoved his head up his arse if he really thinks there's been an overabundance of black male leads as compared to white male leads.

For fricks sake, as much as this board cries snowflake, you motherfrickers seem to be REALLY sensitive. Anytime there's a female actor cast in the lead or a nonwhite actor cast in the lead of a major franchise you all freak out and say "ERMAHGERD!!! HOLLYWOOD IS MAKING MUH WHITE PENIS FALL OFFFFFF!!!"

Seriously, grow the frick up and quit being such a snowflake cuck.
