It's like they put the first 20 minutes into episode 1 just to subvert expectations the rest of the season. I got paramount to watch this....just cancelled it. I'm out. Had so much potential.

Forward unto Dawn was a decent enough web series.

When you put no love into in a work you don't care about then you get the results you deserve.

One of these examples was revealing the face of the chief. That is NEVER acceptable.

Never beat Halo 4 on Legendary huh? Not the full face but more than we had ever seen.

He isn't a Mandalorian and the whole reason Bungie went down that road was to fuel the illusion that the player is Master Chief. It is clear from the closing scene in CE he takes the helmet off when relaxing, just something we never see in the gameplay.

This show was never going to be 10 episodes of just Master Chief rolling into the Mausoleum of the Arbiter with a SPANKR and an energy sword, set to a Breaking Benjamin score.

Why the hell not?

So far the best things on Paramount+ were not created specifically for Paramount+. The Star Trek shows are bad, this show is bad. They just can't make good content for this service.

I still have it though because it gives me my local CBS station. That's worth the cost by itself just to have a live local news station during severe weather events. Plus my kid loves Paw Patrol.

Paramount+ is literally a Paw Patrol/live news/old movies machine at my house. Still gets more use than Netflix.

It doesn't have to be perfect but it needs to resemble some of the source material. They don't understand that Halo is one of the greatest game franchises in history. Which means millions of Halo gamers are going to watch and become critical and then you have causal Halo fans that rarely play the games but do read the books.

You do what you can to please those fans or they will tell potential viewers that it is terrible and thus you lose viewers. Halo isn't a TV or a movie franchise but gaming that could expand to those areas. It just isn't well known enough to be a big hit with viewers that never played the games. But alienating fans of Halo hurts in bringing in more potential fans.

The score was one of the best things about the games.

I know you get a lot of grief for your political opinions. It’s not fair and I think posters’ takes should not go across to other boards on unrelated topics.

But I do want you to know your M/TV takes are equally as awful and maybe even worse.

I was cringing so hard when the female spartan was putting the red stuff in her hair. I'm only watching at this point out of morbid curiosity.

You may like the show, it’s subjective after all. But the show is not very representative of Halo.

But I’m also 50% certain you’re trolling so carry on

What exactly did you want? A mindless show about blue blood and guts of aliens flying all over the screen as MC mows them down with his assault rifle? Over and over again? Hordes of the same thing?

I personally wouldn't go that far but I will continue to watch.

One thing I have noticed among people I know IRL is the amount of content available in some ways requires them to be very binary in their viewing habits. Their limited viewing times means they have to cut fat out with the quickness. This tends to result in "it is awful" moniker being applied to any show that doesn't meet the bar for viewing in their limited windows.

This is an unexpected treatment of a Halo series but I also assume it is building to something that will feel more like Halo. In the end, I like it enough to continue to watch and I also see M/TV opinions like food opinions there isn't one right or wrong answer, especially in the vast area between Plan 9 from Outer Space and Citizen Cane.

That’s the games. How you actually read any of the books? They have plenty of stories that are not just shooting things.

And you want to know how I know it’s not really Halo as it’s presented in its own universe? It’s because the show’s creators specifically said it’s not going to follow the cannon. They don’t want to to be really like Halo.

Which is a good thing! Why would you want a rerun of something you can fire up on the xbox on any given day?

Not always. Sometimes people’s own interpretations on a established piece isn’t very good. Meanwhile sometimes adaptions can be good. And yes the opposite does happen.

I literally told you there are books with actual stories. Stories in which there’s a more in-depth look at characters, motives, scenes, etc. Things you only get in limited quantities in the games. So no I can’t fire up the Xbox and do that. I’d prefer they’d adapted one of the many books.

Also my point was it's very different from the “superb sci series” it’s based on. You can like it but it’s more like a sci fi show with some Halo stuff thrown in. Which I don’t think is a good idea viewership wise considering a large chunk of the original viewers are going to be Halo lore fans. Especially considering the streaming service. Not likely to have a lot of non-fans stumble upon it like on Netflix.

Maybe I’ll come back later to it but I’m probably calling it quits for now. I think it’s going to take a completely different direction and get further and further away from Halo.

Your M/TV Board takes are equally as insane as your love for Biden.
