Thoros is infamous for his flaming sword as well.

If the rape story was bullshite then why would Ned continue to back Robert?

Bc he was his lifelong friend, and by that point the war was basically won, and to call bullshite on the rape thing would be tantamount to killing Jon, and he promised his sister, and he had this thing about honor and his word, and there was that little thing about Aerys murdering his family (which Robert was critical in helping him avenge), and he didn't "back" Robert - rather they won a war together that was not about being king for either of them and Ned let Robert take the throne because he did not want it.

Alternative Theory - GRRM wanted to write a book that was more than 7 pages.

Well, apparently, the guy was a septon, so there you go.

Not that I give a shite either way. Marriage annulled. Deal with it.

But does it have any significance other than being a cool coincidence?

Blackfyre was the sword of the Targaryen kings. So...given Jon's lineage...

Has anybody said Gendry looks like Christian Bale yet? Cause he looks like Christian Bale.

Also, has it been discussed why Cersei getting preggo was significant at this point? Keeps Jamie from killing her?

She's manipulating him is the general perception. He's a puppy dog for Cersei. However, he has never given much of a shite about his other kids.

I was just going to say the same thing. Why risk everything when you can just kill a criminal and wait for him to turn. Although it doesn't make for a very exciting episode.

Yep. I said the same thing back in like page 40 something when the thread was speeding along.

Although, full disclosure - I side with the theory that the NK or a WW has to some positive step to reanimate someone or a group (even if it is just an act of willing it) and be fairly close by. I was using the fact that Jon and company didn't try that trick to gently gig the people who believe that when the Wall falls, every dead body south of it will rise.

But in any event, you would think they'd have at least tried that trick instead of going on such a dangerous mission. If they were squeamish about killing people they could have used a few goats or another animals - but of course that would have been a bit less persuasive to Danny and Cersei.

Now, this line of thinking has got me wondering - I wonder if the wight they bring back south might actually be one of the group who gets killed on the mission. Not sure how I'd feel about that.

I would assume the NK has to do something to raise them. It is possible that he was raising wights at random earlier to create chaos. It seems they are marching as a giant army now though.

Hmm, maybe the Hound since he'd be the easiest to identify. Not saying he'd choose that just that might be the way the show goes.

I mean the annulment isn't even what people are curious about - the question proposed in this thread by various people has been that it seems odd nobody has heard about it until now.

anyone else think Sam's story is horribly done this season? they literally sent him to the citadel so that he could function as a fat deus ex machina a few times and then sent him on his way. trash writing

ya it seemed a bit of a cop out / poor writing that he steals a sword, stumbled on to a few pieces of information, heals jorah and then peaces out - but they are under a time constraint at this point and need to get shite done. A lot of these issues this season are largely a function of the prior seasons going slow or something they did in the prior seasons that has an effect now that they need to tie everything up in like 8 more episodes or whatever it is.

Im just curious what Jons actual Targaryen name is.

My guess would be Jaehaerys, it's an old Targ name and it makes sense that it would be abbreviated to Jon.
