The World of Ice and Fire is great, A Knight of the 7 Kingdoms is great, these are completed books with finished stories.
Completely false. The Tales of Dunk and Egg are not complete. The World of Ice and Fire is not a novel. Fire and Blood is not complete.

I can't tell which franchise creator has a more toxic and psychotic relationship with his fan base...
Star Wars George Lucas or GOT's George R.R. Martin.
Star Wars George Lucas or GOT's George R.R. Martin.

Lucas lost touch with reality but he still means well.
Martin is set for life after the TV series made him mega rich. Right now, he is trolling his fanbase. He has no intention to end the book series.

He said he told them the major points of how it ended.
Spoilers obviously
So he would have told them things like Bran would be king and Jon would kill Dany. He didn’t tell them how he would get to that point (pretty important in storytelling) or any other details. Because he himself probably didn’t know since he’s no where near finishing the books. So basically they stuck those things in without much buildup to how the events would’ve logically played out.
D&D should get blamed but GRRM is also to blame.

No, D&D deserve 100% of the blame. They were not beholden to him or his vision for the ending of the novels. That fat frick tells me that Bran becomes King and I tell him thanks but no thanks, we can figure it out from here.
They should have distanced themselves as far from him as possible and tried to make a really great TV show ending, instead of whatever the frick you call the last 2 seasons of GOT.

I don't even care if Bran became king, but make me want him to be king. They made his character so boring literally anyone else would have been a more interesting choice.
But i'll give them all a shot just incase it's something good. To use the Lucas comment. That's like saying i won't watch the Mandalorian because Last Jedi and ROS were a pieces of shite.

Just make a series of jon snow and thormund giantsbane running around fricking shite up and i’ll watch every episode

Reading the list of prequels in development, I can honestly say they all look like failures before filming starts.
One series is about the warrior Queen Nymeria? Can you imagine what a woke shite fest that show will be?

I did, but I won't bother with anything else from G. Martin, and you're missing the point entirely. I cancelled HBO right after the finale'. I didn't even watch the wrap up docu-episode. So yeah, I watched, and I know of what I'm speaking about when I say this has all the signs of a massive fail.

I think both creators got enamored with their fame, the adulation from the fans, and it steered them off from the path they were on in telling a really great story.
Lucas with the merchandizing to kids and desire to go back and load up CGI in his already finished films.
Martin simply enjoyed the celebrity status he got and it distracted him to the point where he didn't feel the need to finish anything. He's made his money. He should be retiring, and enjoying life, not gearing up for another 10-15 year long project. He just doesn't have it in him anymore.

I've read all the books, and watched the series. And like most others, I'm pissed at how shitty the series finished and how fatass hasn't finished the books.
This thread has me thinking about other fantasy writers that started a GREAT series and never finished them.
Along with GRRM, the first that comes to mind is Patrick Rothfuss with The Name of the Wind series. His dad died during the writing of the third and final book, and he stalled and hasn't finished it. He's also gone the route of Fatass in letting his celebrity go to his head and distract him. He's at comin cons and makes appearances at other nerd gatherings, does D&D streaming guest spots, etc. FINISH THE BOOKS DAMMIT.
At least Robert Jordan has the excuse that he died before finishing. And the publishers had Brandon Sanderson finish it.
Another awesome series, the Hiero's Journey series by Sterling Lanier. He was hit by a car after the second book and severe brain damage prevented him from writing anything ever again. I highly recommend you read books 1 and 2.
Can anyone think of other authors that left us hanging the way Fatass (yes, I'll eternally refer to GRRM as Fatass unless he finishes the series) and Rothfuss.
How are they not getting more shite for not finishing their books???

How do I know - he resigned with HBO and didn’t cry about it
Re-signing for millions has absolutely nothing to do with whether they ended the last show to his liking. It has everything to do with simply getting more money.

I didn't read the books, so my opinion is based on the show only. I agree that up until GRRM bailed on it, it was a watchable. ( I even bailed , for a bit, after the Red Wedding, but full confession, came back and finished it. ) But Dave and Dan clearly showed they were in way over their heads and admitted, they didn't know what they were doing.
No idea what HBO is thinking, other than they made their money and believe GRRM will still be able to draw enough to make the venture worth while.
I'm not signing up for that. He can't take on new projects with out finishing the GoT books, what's the point? He's lost his focus.

Arya is not going to kill the Night King in the books (if the Night King actually exists in the books) and there is going to be another faction in King's Landing when Dany burns it down and for much different reasons.

Martin for sure. The fans have really forgiven Lucas after the shite show that was the sequel trilogy. Plus the fans are pretty obsessed with Kathleen Kennedy getting destroyed than even thinking about Lucas in general.
Martin and his fans on the other hand have a very volatile relationship where both sides have openly to each other's faces told each other to frick off. You even have famous writers going after Martin for being a talented using fat lazy hack to his fanbase. It's really not even close between the two.
