Unclear if he’s melting about the axing of RJs retarded arse movie, the trashing of the franchise as a whole or everything under the sun.

Had to chuckle about his Rose one liner at the end though.

frick that character. No one gives a shite her awful acting and awful character got written out.

The problem with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker isn’t just that it absolutely walks back a number of potent reveals and plot threads from the last movie, but rather that the 142-minute movie spends almost its entire running time retconning its predecessor and adding painfully conventional “plot twists” and patronizing reversals in the name of mollifying the fans who merely want to be reminded of the first three movies.

Are we sure Rian Johnson didn't write this review?

The Rise of Skywalker feels explicitly crafted for the “Rian Johnson ruined Star Wars!” and “George Lucas ruined my childhood!” demographics, right down to its near erasure of Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico. It’s bad enough that adults no longer see grown-up movies in theaters, but now yesterday’s geeks who have taken over pop culture feel entitled to have the kid-friendly franchises aimed at them as well.

Does anyone watch TLJ and think "Yeah, this is a kid's movie?"

It was WAY less innocent than anything in the OT or the Prequels. Weird relative morality, naked cow things, a planet of war profiteers, a visible beheading, complicated plotting that rivaled the Prequel messes, etc.

It had much less "magic," and a lot more fake depth.

TLJ being a "kids movie" right about describes modern culture's need to MAKE kids grow up earlier rather than letting them grow up on their own.

Post-Lucas SW movies ever had any artistic reason to exist, ever. The Di$ney Star Wars abortions were always going to be soulless cash grabs.

So the movie is tailored to appease people who think the worst parts of the Star Wars franchise were in fact the worst parts?

Sounds like a solid decision to me.

Yeah, who would want to be reminded of a great trilogy that was so awesome, it's the reason people are still making these movies?

Let me guess, not enough woke orange man bad allusions for his liking?

This review makes me want to go see it this weekend instead of waiting a bit.

Just saw the author. Not shocked. This was one of the losers who blamed all the criticism of TLJ on the fans. this is basically just an extension of his soap box.

The dullard reviewer has one glaring contradiction in his logic.

Why is it ok for Rian to completely ignore what JJ did in a previous movie did but somehow a horrible crime if JJ ignores Rian?

I didn't read the entire article, mainly your excerpts. He's pissed that many ideas were retconned. Well....hell yeah!!!!
I love it! I wished the film was 4 hours so they could begin over again!!!!

Then he's pissed that Rose was nearly written out!!!! That bitch made JAR JAR look like an Oscar contender!!! I hope she falls on a lightsaber in the first scene!!!
