No one will give a bad review for fear of the social media onslaught decrying them as racist. This will be a virtue-signaling free for all.

I actually have a really good feeling about it. Not because of the reviews, but because of what I saw from the character in Civil War (albeit in a limited role) and what I've seen in the trailer. On the surface, I think they did a great job with the casting, and I think it'll be a really good addition to the Marvel Universe.

Same. The cast is good, Coogler, and the character has a rich history to pull from. T'Challa is solidly one of Marvel's most important and layered characters. And we haven't had a major cultural representation of him to put him into a box, so they are free to use him as is. All of that lines up well if the execution is on point.

I've seen enough. I know these things apply themselves to Black Panther's history, but I suspect it will be a bit overdone.

I don't think that makes me question the movie as much as the reviewer.

Come on, man. That review earns every eyeroll it receives.

People shouldn't be getting up in arms over first reactions, yet. Every first reaction is like this. This has nothing to do with race, politics, or SJW. It's fanboys naming TLJ the greatest Star Wars movie ever or BvS the greatest superhero movie of all time. That's all this is.

If your major publications roll out biased reviews and unsubstantiated reactions, then maybe all of that comes into play.

But right now it's controlled media at best.

I think people are gun shy after the last couple of years of movies, media coverage, and politics.

I still have hope it will just be a really good movie. The first sign of hope is having MJ play what is supposedly a layered villain rather than just having an Afrikaner or something more overtly racial (and limiting).

You're just going to have to wing it on this one. Even if a critic gives an honest critique, there will be second guessing based on the perceived importance of this film. You can tell from the trailers that it will (at the very least) be a decent action film.

It looks awesome and I'm sure it will good, but these people acting like movies are life changing experiences need to get a life.

Are these initial reactions ever anything other than people saying its the greatest movie ever?

One of my favorites recently was a chinese man reviewing TLJ. Something along the lines of he'd been waiting his entire life for that movie. I'm pretty sure he just thought westerners don't understand sarcasm.

To be fair, the recent big budget films that have pushed those arguments forward were massive disappointments.

I expect critics to love the hell out of this movie, a small chunk of the audience to hate the movie, and have it be pretty good but not top 3 Marvel cred.

I mean everyone kind of knew this was going to be the highest-rated and "most important" Marvel movie of all time. This will go the way of Ghostbusters and The Last Jedi. Critics will give it 100% and fans will be mixed on it probably for valid reasons.

I already have a few nuts on my Facebook boasting that all the "Trump-voting racists who are comic book nerds" will have to see this movie. I really do feel bad for those fixated on that.

I'm undecided if I will see it. Spider-Man: Homecoming, while good, just didn't do much for me. But I loved Logan, Wonder Woman, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and Thor: Ragnorak.

frick that. It's the first ever hero movie based in Africa. There's going to be representation and identity discussions regardless. Some folks just view it as "black and proud" and dismiss so much, because heaven forbid we show a culture movie.

SJW reviews. There will be themes on immigration, white privilege and how great the African/Black culture would be if let alone by whites.

Hoping that this is a standalone film with little reliance on the Avengers storyline. At least we won't have the hero relying on Stark Tech in this one.

Black Panther is the best MCU movie ever. I was blown away from start to finish and I’m not even being biased. This was by far the best marvel movie to date. Thank you, Ryan Coogler! #BlackPanther

Yeah, I'm sure these very cool guys aren't biased.
