Anyone who experienced this in real time will never forget it. It's one of the most bizarre television scenes from my childhood; really caught me off-guard.

The finale of Futurama is one of my favorites. Fry and Leela getting to grow old together always makes me smile.

Also really loved parks and rec finale.

There is Six Feet Under and then everything else.

It’s the bar every series finale should strive for. It was perfect

We recorded the 2 1/2 hour MASH finale on VHS. I think I watched it 100 times. I was in 5th grade when that finale aired and people went back to school the net day crying over it.

yep

Even by the time of the Cheers finale people had VCRS. The true events were earlier:

I was bartending in college when Seinfeld ended. All the regulars came in to watch on the regular-sized crt tv up on the wall and we unplugged the jukebox so everyone could focus on the show. That’s as close to an “event” episode as I’ve ever seen.

I’d imagine the Cheers finale was similar, though I was a kid watching that one at home.

I don’t think anything will ever top the MASH finale.

Newhart was the best. Then Mary Tyler Moore, The Wire, The Shield, Madmen, Justified. Most shows go on for far too long and then the last episode has that money grab stink to it.

Newhart

Totally agree. Never saw that coming and it was vintage Newhart brand of humor.

Loved his cameos on "The Big Bang Theory" too always counseling Sheldon on matters of life.

You knew how the series was going to end or you knew what the final scene was going to be? That final scene may be the greatest TV series final scene ever.

For me, LOST will be the show I think of.

Both emotionally fulfilling, and intellectually unfulfilling at the same time. I don't know a show/fictional journey has ever had me so conflicted with both love and...well maybe not hate but something strongly negative like disappointment.

The Boy Meets World finale will never be topped.
