You need to watch The King on Netflix
I watched that for the first time a few months ago, really enjoyed it.

It also made me look forward to Dune even more.

The 2021 film is supposed to end halfway through the book, which would require a sequel. The rumors I've seen say the movie ends rather abruptly after Paul and Jessica meet the Fremen.

Honestly, it does not need to be 2 movies. That’s a terrible place to stop too.

I get it though. If this works - the hype will be insane. There's so much world to flesh out from the books. I am glad DV took his time by making it 2 parts. He should get the benefit of the doubt until he finally does a bad job at something. Til then, he gets to do his thing imo.

From the looks of it, the Harkonnen attack on Arrakis seems to be the huge battle scenes in the trailer. So, it looks like that aspect of the story is much more fleshed out.

From what I read, a large chunk of the movie takes place before the Atreides leave for Arrakis, which is interesting.

Hoping it's a big Duncan Idaho and Gurney Halleck version of Midnight Run.

Harkonnen screaming at the Duke out of Peter De Vries' communicator, "Hello, you son of a bitch! We got you, you son of a bitch!"

If you can’t appreciate the acting quality of that cast, then take your diversity bitching to the PoliBoard

Sorry, but when Hollywood and the entire left make everything about race, you can't sit and act all like its just some knuckle dragger bitching about black people getting good roles.

Dune is set 10000 years in the future on different planets. I don't remember characters being described as white or black in the booksand a desert people like the Freman would be darker skinned, so there is nothing wrong with diverse casting especially with such a talented cast. Like other have said i'm not crazy about changing the sex of a character when there are many strong female characters already but even that is not that big of a deal as long as it is not the main characters.

Can I go into this movie blind ?

I don’t want it to all be over my head and ruin the experience of watching it.

Which isn’t what I said.

What I did say was if you’re bitching about potential diversity with the quality of this cast, you’re pretty dense at best. And nobody wants to muck up Dune threads with it.

In a sense, but we are talking thousands of years in the future space Moslems when they got to dune…so just a faint likeness of our idea of Islam, gone through many mutations

And that’s even further mutated by Arrakis and the spice. By the time of the events in Dune, at least in the book, they are wholly their own thing.

It’s not essential to the plot.

???

He is Paul Attreides’s Father in law

Father of Chani
The Son of Pardot Kynes, the imperial planetologist sent by the Corrino emperor.

Look, if they want to make him darker skinned, okay, whatever.

But making him a woman changes essential parts of the plot.

But this seems to be the only bad casting, as far as being true to the original story at least, by my Ken.

I don't know anything about Dune, and after watching that trailer I feel like I still don't know anything about Dune. Looks like it might be good though.

Not happy about it. I always felt he was sorta of a temporary new world father figure for Paul

What will the Guild Navigators look like? I loved those things in the first one. Lynch was such a great weirdo.

I’d be curious to see how that happens since we see Paul with blue eyes in the trailer.
