Nerdrotic: Marvel is DYING.

Gary explains it all in autistic detail.

Enjoy.

He is right. Basically they are taking material loved by heterosexual men and marketing it to women and homosexuals, who will never really care that much about comic book shows.

It's not much, but it's enough.

I liked the intro with Joe Rogan and RD Jr.

Maybe that's because there's so much of it around and he's simply calling it out. Easier to be a clapping seal and praise this garbage but thankfully he's not some shill for the big studios who take delight in trashing IP's and insulting long time fans.

I’d like to say this is the primary answer, but honestly, even the non-woke aspects of Marvel just kind of suck. Like really suck.

And the stakes are so low for the characters that nobody cares. Do you care if Moon Knight gets punched in the face? What about Falcon as Captain America?

I get that money and stakeholders drive the studio to release more and more, but they would have done better to take a long break after Endgame and then start a new storyline.

Maybe. But Marvel has made it real easy for him to do it because the stuff after Endgame is lousy. I liked Moon Knight, it was different. Loki had potential, didn't reach it. FATWS was crap. Hawkeye was more about the girl than Hawkeye. Miss Marvel was cute, if you love teenage angst. She-Hulk is dumb as hell. Black Widow was meh and years too late. Shang-Chi was decent. Eternals was hot garbage. Dr. Strange: MoM can only be described generously as a disappointment. Wandavision was alright. And Thor: Love and Thunder was half of a good movie, at best. Spidey was a good movie, but Andrew and Tobey were the reasons why. They spent ten years building the MCU and it only took a few to turn it into an incoherent mess.

It’s the stupid woke bullshite infiltrating everything. The show isn’t made to be good, it’s not an adaptation of the comic book. It’s an exercise in diversity and inclusion.

Make a show about social commentary if that’s what you want to do.

I watched two episodes of She Hulk. It’s legitimately hard to put into words just how awful it is. Everything about it. It’s so bad that anybody who received any money for working on the show should legitimately feel like they’ve gotten away with robbery. It’s a steaming pile of shite in every aspect

The Avengers worked out because they had a great villain in Thanos. They planted seeds about him and he lived up to the hype when he finally arrived. This phase of the MCU won't sink or swim based on the side shows being good or bad, it will sink or swim based on whoever the main bad guy is in the movies.

There's something to that but if you are Disney I think you should be worried that so many nerds enjoy hate clicking on that content.

Most of them were core consumers through Endgame.

Disney (among others) has done this to themselves. Once you start playing identity politics everyone starts playing identity politics.

People say this but it doesn’t really hold up to reality

since Endgame here are their RT audience ratings

Spider-Man FFH 95%
Wanda Vision 88%
Fallon and Winter Soldier 85%
Loki 90%
Black Widow 91%
Shang Chi 98%
Eternal 77% audience
Hawkeye 90%
Spider-Man NWH 98%
Dr Strange Universe of Madness 85%
Ms Marvel 77%
Thor 77%
She Hulk 36% first real flop

And it’s not like they have any of the big guns outside Spider-man. No Iron Man No Cap.

These numbers aren’t really all that different than any other phase.

shite phase 1 between Iron Man 1 and Avengers nothing has a score in the 80s. And they’re all good movies. And people
Liked them.

The Avengers worked out before Thanos entered the picture. It had decent writing, good humor, actors with chemistry who seemed to be enjoying themselves and it resulted in a fun movie.

What Marvel is now is more social engineering and even if you're sympathetic to that sort of thing, guys with neato powers wearing fancy pajamas don't make good preachers. It gets old, fast. Maybe Marvel will learn that lesson, but I doubt it.

I don't necessarily think "woke" is the issue, although it certainly doesn't help.

It's viewer fatigue. You said 10 years, this is going on 14 now. You catch an announcement, and they're planning this, that, the other etc for the next 2-3 years, and that's not even addressing the fact that they plan on making Fantastic Four and X-Men into multi-film franchises...
And the setting is no longer the real world, or even a close mirror. There's been several near-apocalyptic events, aliens are commonly known, yada yada.

I liked the MCU, and I'm at the point that I push away from the table, put my hands up, and say "enough".

Top Gun Maverick... it's one of the biggest movies in history. I liked it a lot, I don't think it's one of the best movies ever. But there's nobody who's a damn superhero in it, no campy supervillain, nobody flies without a plane, nobody swings a lightsaber (yes, that's overbearing too). It's a damn fun action movie that makes you proud of American fighter pilots.
It's a welcome relief, when we DESPERATELY want something else.

I seriously doubt they are in panic mode. What their profits went from $4.2 billion down to $3.9 billion? It’s a drop in the bucket for Disney

I didn't even get into the woke aspects of Marvel movies, but they are pretty glaring at times.

So much of the MCU was done well previously, they had some goodwill for this current phase. So much of the current phase has been bad, that fan goodwill is going to evaporate.

Top Gun: Maverick

A fantastic movie. A simple action movie about pilots and jets with a little nostalgia magic thrown in. Tom Cruise seems like the last actor left that knows how to make entertaining blockbuster films.

First of all, RT scoring system is about as bad as Amazon's. Totally rigged.

Secondly, what do ALL of these shows have in common?

(Moon Knight)
Wanda Vision 88%
Falcon and Winter Soldier 85%
Loki 90%
Black Widow 91%
Shang Chi 98%
Eternal 77% audience
Hawkeye 90%
Dr Strange Universe of Madness 85%
Thor 77%

At some level, they're ALL bait-and-switch shows which advertise the better-known lead guy, but then relegate the man as a standard doofus clown, who then needs a girl-boss Mary Sue to come in and save the day.

In Black Widow, they gender swapped Taskmaster, hilariously, as the stunt double was clearly always a dude in that costume.

Same goes for Kenobi and Boba Fett, which goes to prove that this is a Disney problem, not just MCU.
