All the President's Men was not best picture material unless you are a political junkie or commie-lib.
Rocky had a grittiness to it. You could feel it. He didn't want to win, he just wanted to stand on his own two feet. You could feel his poverty, his depression over losing at life. Then you throw in Apollo, masterfully played by Weathers. He managed to pull off making Creed look cocky without making him look cartoonish.
Network was probably a better movie and today would probably beat Rocky as it has an intellectual side to it, which the Academy likes today.
Taxi Driver? Plot itself doesn't grab you. DeNiro's acting does.

Agree 100%. It holds up very well. It accurately predicted the rise of “reality” TV and heavily slanted news programs.

Whose importance? Are you under the impression that the book was written by video media journalists and then adapted and filmed by video media journalists? Do you think only video media journalists got it to the 6th highest box office gross of 1976?

It is one of the most boring films I have ever watched.
I had to sit through it in a Politics in Film class when I was in college and I could not believe how dull and dry it was. I'm sure it was highly relevant in 1976, just two years removed from the whole Watergate scandal, but RollTide1987 in 2007 couldn't have cared less about it.

Yes. Both on initial watch and rewatchability. Taxi Driver just was not an enjoyable movie. I appreciated it; not much desire to see it again. Rocky is a remote drop movie. If it's on as you're scrolling the guide, you stop and watch. Fun, funny, inspirational. Great movie.

Agreed. The franchise became something totally different than the original movie. Don’t get me wrong, I love some of the sequels but for totally different reasons than why I loved the original.

The news anchor of the fourth places network has an on air nervous breakdown that ends up with him as a populist favorite.
This goes from him nearly being fired to being a corporate favorite despite ethical questions about news vs entertainment as well as letting an obviously mentally ill man be on the air untreated.
At the same time, the programming executives are desperate to juice up their other shows and come up with the idea to have a reality show based on the actions of a Symbionese Liberation Army knockoff.
