This thread is derailed about a great mini series.

Leave it to the PoliBoard snowflakes to make that happen.

well this thread took an embarrassing turn. People really think they made her a woman because of muh feminism??

In all likelihood, they made her a woman because there were so many men in the show and they simply decided to add a woman for balance/potential ratings with women.

Is this an original series or a documentary?

Both. It's based on the actual events, but there's debate about how accurate it is. I wouldn't call it a documentary, but rather an original series based on the event.

Im glad that this doesnt bother me at all. At no point at all did I give any thought to the show having feminism and it made me enjoy it even more bc of that. The whole time I was thinking about the show/story/how well it was done and never "of course they put a woman in there to represent all the scientist. Blatant feminism!" I mean it was a suasage fest other than Ulana and Ignatenko. And everything Ignakenko did just showed how she was a dumbass.

They could have had the scientist, the nurse, and firemans wife all do a scene where they are walking side by side in slow motion like the one in Endgame and I wouldn't have cared.

Meanwhile, in Russia:

Putin’s Media Struggle to Deal With HBO’s Chernobyl
quote:

Argumenty i Fakty, a newspaper popular among the elderly, dismissed the show as “a caricature and not the truth.” “The only things missing are the bears and accordions!” quipped Stanislav Natanzon, lead anchor of Rossia 24, one of the country’s main news channels. He pointed to shots showing modern storm windows on a building in Pripyat — that are only visible if you greatly enlarge the image — as evidence of shoddy filmmaking. However, critics of the series found fault with more than just minor details.
quote:

Still, an attempt will be made to put an entirely different spin on those events. Russia’s NTV channel has already announced that it is shooting its own “Chernobyl” series based on the premise that the CIA sent an agent to the Chernobyl zone to carry out acts of sabotage.

As justification for the story, the film’s director, Alexei Muradov, cited fringe conspiracy theorists: “One theory holds that Americans had infiltrated the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and many historians do not deny that, on the day of the explosion, an agent of the enemy’s intelligence services was present at the station.”

In place of a moving tribute to the heroic men and women who sacrificed everything to overcome the fallout from the Chernobyl disaster, Moscow gives us a thrilling detective film based on a conspiracy theory in which a KGB officer struggles to thwart American spies — the new villains in this national tragedy.

Because of all the scientists she represented, how many were actually female? So why the need to make this character female? It just goes hand in hand with society today wanting everyone represented.

The fact that a female played that role was immaterial to the movie. The fact that a female playing that part triggers you knuckle draggers makes you worse than the SJWs you drone on about. STFU.

Just finished this series and it was great. Like Cokes said, Legasov's card display explanation was awesome. Really effective and easy to follow. Gave a great understanding on how that reactor worked and what went wrong.

On a side note, the soviets sure did love them some cigarettes. Those commies were some chain smoking sons a bitches

That's what I was thinking. If the radiation didn't get them, lung cancer would have before long.

First Movie Board recommendation that I actually enjoyed. Great series and indicative of the socialist mindset. My wife and I were watching it and I kept having to remind her that all these people are dead and they know it. Amazing.

Listening to the podcast now. Wish I had listened while watching series the first time.

Good information in podcast. About what is real and what liberties were taken on the series.

It's not a documentary all. TigerFanatic99 has no idea what a documentary is.
