Yeah once Disney gets Marvel Land up and running they’ll be even more unstoppable

But as long as Universal keeps Harry Potter they’ll be fine. They’ll never be Disney but every time I go to Wizarding World of HP it’s damn near elbow to elbow one of those being in early March and the other early November.

Technically it is, in Disneyland at least. Watch videos on YouTube and the place looks like a ghost town.

Of course WDW will be different but I wouldn’t be surprised, unless the other ride besides Smugglers Run knocks it out of the park, that it won’t look the same in a year or two once the wow and new has worn off

Plain and simple, the best answer. They’re very forgettable.

From all the review videos I’ve watched, it’s basically just a giant gift shop of overpriced Star Wars items based on Disney’s version of Star Wars (Episodes 7-9).

Disneyland raised prices and blocked out annual passes in anticipation for galaxies edge. The world version will be packed. They released the reservation system today and the cantina, lightsaber and droid thing are booked till January. The land opens in three weeks.

They quickly backtracked on annual passes at Disneyland, they had to, attendance went off a cliff there. People even in this thread are saying that it is cause the whole area isn't open, but that doesn't impact Disneyland as much. It's very much a locals park, season ticket attendance is even down, they don't have to make a special trip. People just don't care about it there.

It will definitely take it at minimum a year or two to wear off, it's WDW, just go post on the Travel board. There are a lot of people that have to be seen there.

Reviews show that the high demand merchandise is also garbage quality. The droids are very lackluster and the big item that everyone wants, the $200 build your own lightsaber, is breaking before people even leave the park. Lots of very unhappy people that spent a ton of money.

The drink prices there are insane too.

As for Universal, they’ll always be playing catch up because the masses really don’t give a frick about How To Train Your Dragon or Fantastic Beasts. Disney has plans for a 5th Park and if the rumors are true that it will be more geared towards thrill rides and be Marvel universe based then the gap will get wider.

You left out Nintendo, if you don't think the masses care about that, you have shite for brains. That alone will make the new park a must go to for pretty much everyone.

Disney will have to pay Universal a very hefty sum to get the money making characters of Marvel back to make this park you speak of.

And they are trying their best to force the new, terrible stuff down everyone's throats.

Like everyone has said on page 1, they missed a golden opportunity to reunite the original cast together and solidify the next stuff in a way that would make people care about the new material by having a proper farewell to the old material....but that was rushed and everything old was shite on....so we are where we are and that is not where we should be if you love Star Wars. Not sure it is salvageable at this point with the people who are in charge and the current climate of political views that influence everything today. Sad.

They should have given control to actual fans of the universe, at least JJ fricking understood the universe. TFA was a great starter, even with Harrison Ford demanding to have his character killed off.

The creative control of the franchise should've never been given to people that don't fricking understand, and George fricked up by not making sure when he handed it over that the arc would be concise and clear.

But hey, at least we got that fricking milk scene and Luke disgracing a light saber. Mother of fricking God.

That is coming for the next round of Marvel movies.

It is going to be an expensive lesson for Disney.

It’ll be what Harry Potter is. Not in any way a Disney park killer.

Well, it’s not like Disney is cash strapped or anything.

I have no idea who that movie was supposed to appeal to besides SJW Star Wars fans from California. I’m sure they loved it.

I've said this before on here.

"The Last Jedi" retroactively made "The Force Awakens" a worse movie.

Conversely, "Kong: Skull Island" made "Godzilla" (2014) a better movie, in my eyes.

TL;DR - Kathleen Kennedy is the reason for the failure of Disney's Star Wars venture. Lucas sold the franchise to the wrong freaking person.

TL;DR reply.

He didn't sell it to Kathleen Kennedy though. He sold it to Disney.

Kathleen Kennedy is probably going to go down in history as one of the greatest producers in the history of Hollywood. Movies that she helped produce have made 11 Billion dollars world wide. Including, I daresay, some of this board's favorite flicks.

The problem is Kennedy is not an idea person. She worked with Spielberg and Lucas as the detail person. They would come up with an idea and she'd make sure they had everything they needed to get the job done. She's a master, maybe the greatest of all time, at the production side of making movies.

That isn't what you need as the head of the studio though. You want someone bursting with ideas. You want someone like Kevin Feige. Then you hire someone like Kathleen Kennedy to ride herd on those ideas and make sure they make it to the screen.

She is the wrong person for the job. You don't hire a horse jockey to be the center for your NBA team even if he has won a slew of Kentucky Derbies. The lion's share of the blame goes to Disney... and George Lucas.

It was Lucas, after all, who hand picked Kennedy to be his successor. The plan when she was hired was George would lay down a broad vision for where the Star Wars franchise would go and then Kennedy would do what she does best and get it there. After a couple of years Lucas could "retire".

Instead he sold the company four months later.

As for SJW bullshite... that really isn't a hallmark of her career. Kennedy produced a handful of Oscar bait movies but she's mostly gone with big budget action stuff. I don't think anyone here would label Indiana Jones or Jurassic Park as SJW movies.

She's also well past her prime. She's part of the Lucas/Spielberg family and you will notice that Lucas is retired and Spielberg hasn't been setting the world on fire of late.

Disney needs to ease her out the door and go with someone younger who has a real fire and passion for the franchise.

I’m all for more female representation in power/creative/managing/directing/etc, but hot damn what a stupid fricking shirt.

The force is genderless. Hell. You prolly have alien species in the SW canon as force users/Jedi without established genders. Just fricking dumb.

KK shat all over the SW universe. I think Daisy Ridley is cool, but the shite writing turned what could have been an awesome character into a boring Mary Sue.

I got Ogas booked the early slot so we didn't have to worry about Rope dropping.
Go in get their version of an Irish coffee and a snack. Then ride millennium falcon.
Though Edge is more a shopping area than an attraction area. I think Disney should have had two E tickets and two lesser rides on opening.

Rey is/was a really good character and someone they could have built a great trilogy around. the rest of the characters are dogshit regardless of gender, color, orientation, new character, original trilogy character, etc, and they have spent way too much time on those characters.

What makes you think that? Also if it does, so be it. I got mine with the epic 23 movie Infinity Guantlet arc. Everything after this to me is gravy.

That attendance drop is from April to June. My wife’s company spearheaded a strategic marketing seminar for Disney Parks and they showed some stats that Disney always sees a decrease in attendance a few months before a major new land opening. It happened with Fantasyland and Pandora most recently. The reason is the Disney nuts all want to see the new shite so they book trips after the opening date.

Galaxy’s Edge is no different. The parks will be at capacity from September all the way to next summer.

There have been rumors of a 5th Disney park at WDW for decades. It's not happening. Disney is struggling to transform their current parks into all day experiences. Epcot has been neglected for so long that it's going to take the next decade to bring it up to par. Disney isn't going to construct a 5th park when it's doing everything it can to try and modernize and fix its current parks.

Marvel Land isn't happening at Disney World. Universal still has the rights to most Marvel content in any theme park east of the Mississippi.

A big part of it is also Star Wars fandom has always been overwhelmingly white males and the new movies have done absolutely nothing to appeal to that demo, quite the opposite in fact.

I'll kind of disagree, its not really a race thing. It's a character thing.

Easiest sell in cinema goes like this:

make attractive characters do heroic things with wit and charm, and make sure theres a romantic undertone somewhere in the mix. OT had a smoking hot Leia, Luke, and Solo. All 3 were charming, funny, and attractive, and fighting for each other's attention.

The new trilogy has NONE of the above. Ren is a solid 7 but has no love interest. Poe is a stud too, with no love interest. Those two HAVE to have some type of thing to make it a natural story. theres just no on screen chemistry whatsoever. No love story. Just the weird mechanic girl with the forgettable storm trooper.
