Burton Gilliam plays the smiley cowboy ("sing us some of them **** work songs").

He lived in Allen, Texas. Back when landlines were still around, we looked up his phone number and called him. He was very nice and seemed to enjoy getting the call.

Funny. was talking about Blazing Saddles just this last week. Guy in our group was playing golf at a course in Dallas. as they went by the putting green they saw Burton putting. My buddy was a big fa n and yelled out "Hey Burton, great to see you!'

As they were putting their stuff in their car Burton walked up and said to them thanks for talking to him, that he was back in town and to call him anytime if they wanted to play golf - "I'm in the book"

No, but what a funny movie. Mel Brooks was on fire. Young Frankenstein came out later that year.

Every time a friend/relative whines about the temperature, I whip this out.

not by a major studio, no

it was barely made in 1974 as it stands now

we give way too much power and authority to the voices of professional victims and outrage culture. why does society care so much about the feelings of such a small part of the population?

nobody has actually lost their sense of humor, we are just afraid to show it

yes but you’d need a black director and co-writer.

couldn’t just have an old jewish guy write and direct this on his own.

Edit: I forgot Pryor co-wrote.

they would slap that on everything. He would get billing before Brooks as a writer

It's hard to believe that this thread has gone 3 pages with no mention of the beautiful and voluptuous Ms Stein.

I was about 12 or 13 when Blazing Saddles was in the theaters. The movie was great, but the lasting impact was my affection for redheads with big tits. God bless Ms Stein!

I saw the movie in the theater when I was 12 (amazing how open minded my conservative parents were about movies, they also let me see the Exorcist). I literally fell out of my seat during the campfire scene.

I showed the movie to my son when he was 11, he didn’t get the humor. 2 years later he thanked me, he finally realized how good it was.

Always thought it was a stupid and overrated movie, kind of like Smokey and the Bandit.

Please don’t ever post on this board ever again. Based on this one comment alone everyone now knows to basically ignore everything you say from now on.
It’s ok for people to have varying opinions and not necessarily like the same things but not be able to recognize something may be good just not your personal taste is so short sighted.

Example: I can recognize that the “There shall be blood is a well written script and that it has top notch acting but I just personally find that the story line doesn’t keep my attention. Other than the last scene the movie doesn’t interest me. However I would never say it was stupid or over rated. It is very well done, just not a storyline I find interesting.

Blazing Saddles makes our current freedom of expression look like:

Who knew society collapses when you lose your funny bone?

I think in the area of Comedy, it's okay to say...."back in my day" because the past certainly owns the present humorless society.
